Position Summary

Required qualifications:
Masters in nursing, nursing education or education appropriate to subject matter being taught REQUIRED
Minimum 5 years recent professional experience REQUIRED
Minimum of 3 years previous teaching experience in a BSN or allied health program OR demonstrated consistent positive feedback from students; conducted research to enhance body of knowledge in the discipline REQUIRED
Preferred qualifications:
Doctorate in nursing or education preferred.

Location and unit to be assigned based on greatest need.There are three region options.Must be within 75 miles and 90 minutes of all four hospitals in assigned region.
• Operational hours = 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM 7 days per week
• Flexi - Hours: The team member must enter at least 48 hours of prescheduled time per calendarmonth.
• Facility supported: Members of the team are required to work assigned shifts in all units within the case management specialty. Required to work in 4 hospitals in the Southside or Western Tidewater regions.

Cardiac Operating Room Department Overview:
We are made up of five operating rooms with one being a hybrid OR. We manage 8+ OR cases daily. Nurses work with a multi-disciplinary team of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons, OR attendant, Surgical Techs, Surgical Assistants, Perfusionists, Anesthesiologists, Cardiovascular Technologists, and Physician Assistants.
The Nursing Professional Development Generalist - Educator (NPDG) is the quality, safety, and education expert for the Cardiac OR. NPDG will model professional communication techniques among department management, interdisciplinary teams, and system colleagues to create a safe and supportive environment for staff working within the Cardiac OR.
Responsibilities include new hire onboarding, policy, and procedure management, promoting an environment of quality and safety, continuing education for team members.
NPDG will round with staff, provide support, mentoring, and training.
Liaison between staff and education department and responsible for implementation of process improvements.
NPDG is the liaison for Allied Health Schools and helps establish clinical rotations.
NPDG must be able to support the Operating Room during critical staffing times.
NPDG will be a champion for the shared governance structure of a Magnet facility.

• RN-Bachelor's Level Degree
• Required: Nursing experience in Cardiac OR
• Required: Basic Life Support, VA RN License or Compact eligible

This person completes related work as required, builds and enhances professional relationships with pharmacy, medical, and nursing staffs as well with executive leadership at the Medical Center and communicates effectively across all disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Establishes, coordinates, implements and provides all aspects of clinical pharmacy activities with emphasis on therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical pathways, formulary management, pharmacoeconomics and patient outcomes through detailed reporting systems
Coordinates the activities associated with the provision of safe, effective and economical pharmacotherapy for patients on anti-infective agents (Infectious Disease Specialist) and for patients on other drugs which are in the pharmacy's monitoring program
Collaborates with physicians in establishing drug criteria for the safe, economical and appropriate use of medications
Participates in multidisciplinary team rounds and provides pharmacotherapy recommendations during the discussions
Develops disease/drug therapy management programs to ensure safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medications
Manages non-formulary requests for drugs, and participates in P & T Committee activities
Performs or coordinates initial assessments of drugs having pre-established criteria to be monitored, and monitors these drugs for follow-ups (MUE)
Retrieves, analyzes, evaluates, and interprets the scientific literature, and serves as the resource person for patient and population-specific drug information to health professionals and patients
Participate in the generation of new knowledge relevant to the practice of pharmacotherapy, clinical pharmacy and medicine
Educates health care professionals, students, patients, and the public regarding rational drug therapy
Interprets and applies pharmacokinetic drug data, and recommends dosing regimens based on patient's medical history and disease state, ensuring optimal patient care

Job Summary
The Quality Improvement Coordinator is responsible for providing project management and facilitation, as well as, clinical oversight and support for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement medical staff performance improvement and patient safety initiatives. This includes organizing relevant task forces, review of evidenced based literature/benchmarks, establishment of indicators for monitoring and evaluation of quality and appropriateness of care, continuous improvement, and achieving targeted goals as well as medical record review, occurrence/complaint investigation and tracking/trending medical staff performance.
3 or more years of current experience in QI related activities preferred. Experience in a clinical area of an acute care facility with demonstrated leadership, teaching and QI/PI facilitation skills preferred. Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and accreditation agency standards preferred.
Must be able to link the clinical effectiveness and clinical informatics arenas. Requires local travel and use of personal automobile. Requires flexibility in work schedule.

Part-time, 24 hours per week
The NPD Generalist assumes operational responsibility for the development and implementation of staff education within designated population(s). Functions as a learning facilitator supporting orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education. Provides foundational education competency/skills validation to successfully move nurses from novice to beginner/competent practitioners. Accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education and professional development of nursing staff to improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes. Supports system and hospital performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects and initiatives.
Requirements:
Recent ICU experience is required
BSN required, MSN preferred
Teaching experience preferred
Nursing Professional Development (NPD) or specialty professional nursing certification preferred
Advanced or specialized life support certifications required as defined by specific specialty.
