If you join Sequence, you'll help build the platform that lets companies get paid - we're already processing $1bn+ in annual invoice volume and growing fast. We're building the AI-powered revenue platform for modern finance teams, replacing fragile spreadsheets and legacy systems with software their teams love using. Cognition, incident.io, MoonPay, and 100+ other high-growth companies trust us to handle their entire revenue cycle across quoting, billing, and revenue recognition. Founded by repeat entrepreneurs, we hit 10x ARR growth last year and just closed a $20M Series A led by 645 Ventures, alongside a16z and exceptional founders and CFOs from companies like Decagon, Klaviyo and Wise. What's it like to work at Sequence? Small team, big opportunity, real ownership. You'll do work that matters, have direct access to customers, and grow alongside the company. If you want to do the best work of your career at a company that's scaling fast, we'd love to meet you. The role We're looking for an Account Executive with exceptional communication skills and attention to detail to help us deliver value for modern B2B finance and revops teams. What you'll do: 🚀 Manage the highest priority deals in the business, from discovery calls, demos, technical evaluations and price negotiations right through to contract signature 🤝 Attend investor / industry events for in-person meetings and relationship building with your key prospects and customers 🔎 Obsess over the details of our customer problems and devise collateral and creative solutions to showcase the best approach that we can offer ✍️ Relay critical feedback to product and engineering teams to support effective prioritisation decisions This may be a good fit if: ✅ You have a track record of high performance, likely in multiple domains ✅ You thrive under the pressure of managing a large pipeline of high value, fast-moving deals ✅ You have experience selling B2B software products ✅ You are energised by the idea of working in a scrappy, lightning fast environment with a group of high performers ✅ You get fired up by the idea of working in a lean team, where the bar is high, but unfortunately that means not everyone can make it ✅ You enjoy complex customer problems, getting into the weeds, building collateral and showing how Sequence can meet their requirements ✅ You're excited to become a domain expert in the core systems of record that powers modern B2B teams, from sales in the CRM to finance in the ERP This might not be a good fit if: 👎 You are comfortable, and like to stay that way 👎 You are not ready for a demanding work environment 👎 You are uncomfortable working without clear structure 👎 Even with our growth, we are still an early-stage startup. If you need something more predictable, this is not going to be an ideal fit 👎 You're not excited about working with Finance teams and becoming an expert in B2B billing and quote to cash systems. You won't be able to succeed in this role unless you love our customers and want to truly help them in whatever way possible Our hiring process: 1️⃣ Intro call (30 mins): General chat on your background and motivations with the hiring manager, Enda. 2️⃣ Sales Assessment (45 mins): A live session (with prep work) walking through a Sequence sales scenario and ICP analysis. 3️⃣ Founder interview (30 mins): A final interview with our CEO, Riya. We are known to go from intro call to offer in 1 week for the right candidates. Think you're up for it?

Sequence job in New York, NY

If you join Sequence, you'll help build the platform that lets companies get paid - we're already processing $1bn+ in annual invoice volume and growing fast. We're building the AI-powered revenue platform for modern finance teams, replacing fragile spreadsheets and legacy systems with software their teams love using. Cognition, incident.io, MoonPay, and 100+ other high-growth companies trust us to handle their entire revenue cycle across quoting, billing, and revenue recognition. What's it like to work at Sequence? Small team, big opportunity, real ownership. You'll do work that matters, have direct access to customers, and grow alongside the company. If you want to do the best work of your career at a company that's scaling fast, we'd love to meet you. The role We're looking for software engineers with strong backend and cloud infrastructure experience to build the systems that power billing for modern B2B companies. You'll own revenue-critical infrastructure - the kind where correctness isn't negotiable and downtime isn't an option. Our usage events platform processes every merchant action that determines how their customers get billed, making it one of the most critical systems we run. You'll work on the evolution of this platform to handle exponential growth while maintaining perfect accuracy. This is a rare opportunity: you're joining early enough to make fundamental architectural decisions, but late enough that real customers depend on what you build. You'll design systems that process high-velocity event streams, make technical decisions that balance cost and performance at scale, and build infrastructure that never compromises on reliability. What you'll do: Own revenue-critical event infrastructure. You'll work on systems that process customer usage data on which billing and invoicing depend. Design event streaming pipelines that handle high throughput with low latency. Build robust systems where data accuracy is non-negotiable and uptime is measured in nines. Design scalable data systems. You'll work with event streaming architectures, building sophisticated ingestion pipelines and query optimization strategies. Our event volumes grow with every new customer, so you'll architect systems that scale efficiently while keeping costs reasonable. Shape our backend architecture. You'll tackle our most complex technical challenges and set the standards for how we solve them. Our services run on Kotlin with Spring Boot, and you'll have significant influence over architectural patterns and how we approach infrastructure problems. Build for the next phase of growth. You'll design systems that work beautifully today and scale to 10x the load tomorrow. This means thinking about data storage strategies, horizontal scalability, and how your architectural decisions affect performance as volume increases. Drive impact on a small team. We've built an engineering culture around collaboration, learning, and shipping. You'll have significant influence on what we build, how we build it, and how we work together. This is a great fit if you... ✅ Love building systems that scale. You've worked on backends that handle significant load and understand the tradeoffs in designing for throughput, latency, and cost. You know when to optimize and when good enough is actually good enough. ✅ Have strong experience in event-driven architectures. You've built pub/sub systems, worked with event streaming platforms, and understand the nuances of event delivery semantics, backpressure, and ordering guarantees. ✅ Think deeply about data systems. You've worked with analytical databases or OLAP systems. You can reason about columnar storage, indexing strategies, and query optimization without needing a whiteboard. ✅ Own your infrastructure. You've provisioned cloud resources, written infrastructure-as-code, and made architectural decisions that balance competing constraints. You understand how to model and optimize costs as systems scale. ✅ Write backend code in strongly-typed languages. Our services run on Kotlin, though you don't need prior experience - many of our engineers learned it here and loved the challenge. What matters is that you're comfortable with type systems and backend development. ✅ Want to work on something new. The biggest technical decisions still lie ahead. You'll help define our infrastructure strategy, not just implement someone else's vision. ✅ Thrive in uncertainty. We're an early-stage company. Priorities shift as we learn from customers. Requirements evolve as we understand the problem space. You find this energizing, not frustrating. ✅ Care about customers and their problems. You'll work directly with customer data and build systems that power their revenue. You'll need to understand not just how to build things, but why they matter. This might not be the right role if you… 👎 Prefer staying in your lane. We're small and fast-moving. Engineers here work across different parts of the system and adapt as needs change. 👎 Want a predictable roadmap. We don't have a year-long backlog of perfectly scoped tickets. We figure out what to build based on customer needs and technical priorities. 👎 Prefer a slower pace. We're solving real problems for customers today, which means we need to move quickly and make pragmatic tradeoffs. 👎 Want startup perks with big company stability. We're early stage - that comes with excitement and opportunity, but not the benefits package of an established tech company. How we work We're based in London and New York and love spending as much time with our colleagues as possible. We spend three days together in the office, with team lunch on Wednesdays. We get together twice a year for company offsites. What we offer: The salary range for this role is $210,000 - $230,000 + share options Early ownership of critical infrastructure at a fast-growing company Real architectural influence - your decisions will shape how we build for years A collaborative team that values deep technical work and continuous learning We move fast - typically 1-2 weeks start to finish: Initial interview (30 mins) Technical interview (60 mins) Product interview (30 mins) System design interview (45 mins) Founder interview (30 mins) We've written a detailed blog post about the process with tips about how to prepare.

  • Senior Product Engineer (Backend - US)

    Sequence 3.9company rating

Sequence job in New York, NY

If you join Sequence, you'll help build the platform that lets companies get paid - we're already processing $1bn+ in annual invoice volume and growing fast. We're building the AI-powered revenue platform for modern finance teams, replacing fragile spreadsheets and legacy systems with software their teams love using. Cognition, incident.io, MoonPay, and 100+ other high-growth companies trust us to handle their entire revenue cycle across quoting, billing, and revenue recognition. What you'll be doing We care deeply about the quality of the product we're building. We're looking for engineers who are ambitious and take ownership end-to-end: from identifying what to build, through shipping, to making sure it works for real customers. Here's what you might work on: AI-powered approval workflows. Enterprise deals need approval chains, but rigid workflows break when every company has different rules. You'll build flexible routing that customers configure in natural language - "require VP approval for deals over $100k with annual terms" - and turn that into deterministic, auditable business logic. An intelligent collections agent. Chasing late payments is tedious, manual work. We're building an agent you instruct in natural language (“send a reminder at 7 days overdue; escalate at 14 days”), which then runs the entire workflow autonomously. Scaling billing infrastructure 10x. We're building revenue-critical infrastructure and currently rearchitecting our billing pipeline for an order of magnitude more throughput - rethinking storage strategies, horizontal scalability, and how we'll handle 10x load without 10x cost. We're a lean team growing to 20+ engineers. You'll have real influence on what we build and how we build it. Early enough to shape fundamental architecture. Late enough that customers depend on what you ship. You'll design systems that process high-velocity event streams, make technical decisions that balance cost and performance at scale, and build infrastructure that never compromises on reliability. This is business-critical infrastructure: a dropped event means someone isn't charged correctly. An outage at month-end means finance teams can't collect revenue from their customers. What our newest hires have shipped Watchtower: our command center for AI agents. As we introduce agents that automate financial workflows, customers need visibility and control. This included building our first agent - a contract intake system that extracts customer and pricing information from uploaded or emailed contracts, taking customers from signed contract to automated billing in minutes. A fully integrated e-signature experience for quotes. When a customer is closing a deal, friction kills momentum. We rebuilt the signing experience - including embedded authentication and branded emails - into a seamless signing experience used by teams at the top tech companies every day. Role-based access controls across the product. Different companies have different structures, but they all need tight control over who can approve deals or access sensitive data. This meant designing a flexible RBAC model that handles resources across every API endpoint and UI surface. See more of what we've shipped in our public changelog. You should apply if You're a builder who wants to solve problems end-to-end: You've shipped production backend systems and care about the difference between "it works" and "it's reliable" You care about customers - you want to understand why you're building something, not just what You're comfortable with ambiguity. You thrive in early ideation stages, share work-in-progress to gather feedback, and adapt easily based on input You communicate clearly. Thoughtful communication is a superpower that sharpens how we collaborate and build You're interested in distributed systems and writing resilient software Nice to have: Deep relational database expertise. We do a lot of complex queries and care about performance. This might not be right if We're a small team moving fast on hard problems. That might not be a fit if you: Enjoy larger organisation structures and staying only within your area of expertise. Taking ownership here means doing whatever the problem needs Want a traditional engineering team set up, with a predictable roadmap and clearly scoped out tickets provided for you Prefer a slower pace. Customers are depending on what we ship Aren't comfortable with production responsibility. We're revenue-critical infrastructure - on-call matters here Tech stack We hire for ability, not a specific tech stack. Most of the team learned Kotlin here: Backend: Kotlin (modular monolith using Http4k, Spring Boot, Exposed, Result4k) Storage: Postgres, BigQuery Async messaging: Google Cloud Pub/Sub Infrastructure: Google Cloud, Terraform Frontend: TypeScript, React Monitoring: Google Cloud Monitoring, Sentry Tools: GitHub, Slack, Notion, Linear Read our engineering principles How we work We're based in London and New York and love spending as much time with our colleagues as possible. We spend three days together in the office, with team lunch on Wednesdays. You'll join a cross-functional product team working directly with design and product. We get together twice a year for company offsites. What we offer Salary: $210,000 - $230,000 Equity: Meaningful share options 20 days vacation plus national holidays Competitive healthcare and 401K Visa sponsorship available Interview process We move fast - typically 1-2 weeks start to finish: Initial interview (30 mins) Technical interview (60 mins) Product interview (30 mins) System design interview (45 mins) Founder interview (30 mins) We've written a detailed blog post about the process with tips about how to prepare.
