Job Description
These position provides coverage for shifts as needed and is not guaranteed a set number of hours per week. This position is expected to remain active and available to support departmental operations as needed throughout the calendar year, and is required to work a minimum of 192 hours during each calendar year (equivalent to an average of 16 hours per month).
Summary of Position
The Public Safety Officer is responsible for fostering and maintaining a safe learning and working environment for the Augsburg University Community. This environment is attained through proactive patrol of the campus buildings and ground and through positive interactions with the community we serve.
Primary Responsibilities
Creating and maintaining a safe learning and working environment for members of the Augsburg University Community.
Provide required services to the Augsburg University Community, including: walking or driving escorts, locking and unlocking of campus buildings according to class schedules and events, and providing information and assistance to the community as needed.
Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance. Initiate and coordinate Police, Fire, and EMS response as needed.
Monitor campus activities and facilities through proactive patrol and observation.
Identify after hours' facilities issues and assist in the coordination of emergency maintenance response.
Prepare required incident reports completely and accurately for all security and safety related activities.
Regularly monitor and use critical infrastructure systems, including: CCTV systems, fire alarm panels, automation systems, alarms, access card systems, and parking enforcement systems.
All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).

Public Safety plays a major role in protecting the St. Thomas community, and has a proven history of educating, training and enhancing the job skills necessary for professional career advancement in policing and the private security industries. Public Safety Officers at the University of St. Thomas work 12-hour shifts. A determination as to which shift is available, day or evening shift, may not be made until the six month training period has been completed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Participate, assist or represent inmates with Inmate Grievance Procedure.
· Booking Officers receive and book all persons arrested within Wabasha County or delivered to the Jail for boarding from another jurisdiction and performs all tasks involved in the inmate release process. In addition to Booking Officer responsibilities, this position also performs all Housing Officer duties in the booking area.
· Housing Officers perform duties related to the care and well-being of inmates, as well as the safety and security in the facility.
· Master Control implements emergency procedures that require lockdown of the housing units and evacuation of the facility, as well as maintaining the secure perimeter of the facility electronically.
· The Rover provides backup to the Booking Officer, Housing Officer, and Master Control. The Rover is not an additional post, but is performed in conjunction with other correctional officer positions.
· Must meet annual Minnesota DOC training requirements.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description
Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide non-enforcement safety support for Augsburg University.
CSOs are an essential part of maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive campus environment.
Conducting building walk-throughs to identify hazards, unsecured spaces, or safety concerns.
Unlocking and locking academic areas on a set schedule or by request.
Providing safe walking escorts to members of the community.
Serving as approachable representatives of Public Safety in day-to-day campus life.
Assisting, when requested, with working campus events where the Department of Public Safety
is requested or required by university policy.
Scheduling & Hours
Monday - Friday, 8pm - 12am
12 hours per week
Work-study eligible students welcome.
Compensation and Benefits
Rate of Pay: $15.97/hour
Minnesota Sick and Safe Time
Not eligible for health insurance benefits
Qualifications
Students must be currently enrolled at Augsburg and must be work-study eligible.
