About this Position
Serve as an Unarmed Security Officer at the OSUCOM-CN Tahlequah campus. As part of the Oklahoma State University Police Department's Tulsa Division, you will be a valued member of the unarmed security team assigned to the Tahlequah campus. In this role, you will provide safety and security services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors at our state-of-the-art facility. You are entrusted with fostering a safe and inclusive environment through active engagement and proactive security patrols, contributing to the overall mission of the department and the university community.
Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Education and experience requirements at this level consist of two years of experience in correctional officer or security work for a governmental agency or private corrections agency in addition to the statutory requirements contained in 57 O.S. § 510: "a. The minimum age for service shall be twenty (20) years of age. The Director shall have the authority to establish the maximum age for correctional officers entering service and b. possession of thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university; or possession of a high school diploma acquired from an accredited high school or GED equivalent testing program and graduation from a training course conducted by or approved by the Department and certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training either prior to employment or during the first six (6) months of employment...."
Note: Successful completion of the GED test is based upon standards established by the Oklahoma Department of Education.
Special Requirements:
Per 57 O.S. 510 applicants/employees in this job family shall be subject to the following additional requirements: (a) be of good moral character; (b) before going on duty alone, satisfactory completion of an adequate training program for correctional officers and guards, as prescribed and approved by the State Board of Corrections; and (c) satisfactory completion of a physical in keeping with the conditions of the on an annual basis and along the guidelines as established by the Department of Corrections.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Required annually to achieve a passing score of 70% or greater on the State of IL Mandatory Annual Active Duty and Retired Officer Handgun Qualification Course of Fire, un-assisted. Probationary Officers must complete range qualification within their 90-day probationary period and must attend the first qualification date within their probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Must possess a valid, current CLEET peace officer certification, including annual firearms recertification, and must maintain certification throughout employment

● To establish fitness for duty, must successfully pass a physical ability/job task simulation test selected by campus police leadership prior to hire and regularly thereafter as required. Correctional Officer:
This is the basic level where employees are assigned as correctional officer cadets and receive formal and on-the-job training in security and custody duties and various policies and procedures relating to control and management of inmates. Correctional Officers are also assigned responsibilities involving routine duties as a first level trained security officer in the security, control and custody of inmates in a state adult correctional center after completion of all statutory training requirements and job orientation. This will include the supervision of inmates in a wide variety of situations and activities, which may include supervising inmate work crews at work sites as well as patrolling yards, cell houses, grounds and other areas to control the movements, conduct, work and discipline of inmates. Employees at this level are responsible for interpreting and executing post orders.
Corporal:

Assignments are related to maintaining discipline and security among inmates, both within and outside the facility. Incumbents interpret and execute post orders.
Education and Experience
Correctional Officer:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of the statutory requirements contained in Title 57 O.S., Section 510.A.2: “a. The minimum age for service shall be twenty (20) years of age. The Director shall have the authority to establish the maximum age for correctional officers entering service and b. possession of thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university; or possession of a high school diploma acquired from an accredited high school or GED equivalent testing program and graduation from a training course conducted by or approved by the Department and certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training either prior to employment or during the first six (6) months of employment.
Note: Successful completion of the GED test is based upon standards established by the Oklahoma Department of Education.

Those identified for Correctional Officer plus 12 months of experience in correctional or security work for a governmental agency or private corrections agency.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in even challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. Liaisons with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinates, briefs, and monitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensure policy compliance and prevent unsafe practices.
Maintains current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon (Taser), to include training on any/all department-issued equipment and/or requirements identified in the Annual Training Plan.
License/Registration/Certification Required:
Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained on a one-time basis within two years of appointment to this role. Recertification is not required.
A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle.
Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card issued by the Illinois State Police or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ). This is needed in order to carry a taser at work and can be obtained after offer.
Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter.

The Director shall have the authority to establish the maximum age for correctional officers entering service and b. possession of thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university; or possession of a high school diploma acquired from an accredited high school or GED equivalent testing program and graduation from a training course conducted by or approved by the Department and certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training either prior to employment or during the first six (6) months of employment...."
Note: Successful completion of the GED test is based upon standards established by the Oklahoma Department of Education.
Special Requirements:
Per 57 O.S. 510 applicants/employees in this job family shall be subject to the following additional requirements: (a) be of good moral character; (b) before going on duty alone, satisfactory completion of an adequate training program for correctional officers and guards, as prescribed and approved by the State Board of Corrections; and (c) satisfactory completion of a physical in keeping with the conditions of the on an annual basis and along the guidelines as established by the Department of Corrections.
