Summary of position:
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Corrections Officer 2 (Lateral) performs more complex detention duties based on increased experience in a detention facility. Incumbents perform booking, searching, releasing, transportation, supervision and security work for the Sheriff's Office Jail. Employees are expected to handle a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm and competent manner. Employees in this classification are responsible for the operation of the Sheriff's Office Jail on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis. Work is reviewed by the Corrections Sergeant through observation and evaluation of demonstrated ability to handle a variety of work situations
Kitsap County Sheriff's Office values the wellness of our Corrections staff. We offer a work schedule that consists of 10 hr. 40 minute shifts, which consists of workweeks that are 5 days on/4 days off two weeks in a row, and then 5 days on/5 days off the third week.
Required Education and Experience
* High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); AND
* Completion of Washington State Criminal Justice Corrections Academy or completed the Department of Corrections CORE program from 1/2004 - 7/2021, or have an equivalent certification that is recognized by CJTC; AND
* Successful completion of the agency's corrections FTO/training programs.
* Successfully complete WSCJTC Equivalency Academy within one year of hire.
