Full-Time Protective Service Officer Pay Rate: $23.00 - 27.90 Hourly
Hours: Up to 36 Weekly
Objective
This position is under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor and is responsible for the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, personnel, customers, and all visitors.
Essential Functions
Read and understand the English language to effectively carry out applied printed rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training materials. Have a command of both the written and spoken English language to properly communicate in person or via electronic devices (telephone and radio) with co-workers and the general public. Maintaining a professional, tactful, and courteous demeanor under stressful situations that security personnel routinely encounter. Be able to compose precise short paragraphs, written reports, and other reports in English as necessary
Job Duties
Performs security patrols.
Enforces access control procedures.
Protects property from theft, embezzlement, sabotage, fire, and accidents.
Investigate and write reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards, and other security-related situations.
Assist customers, employees, and visitors in following the department's procedures.
May perform other related duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
Candidate Qualifications:
Must be a Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or who possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component of the United States Armed Forces, OR a U.S. Citizen
Must have been issued a Social Security Card by the Social Security Administration
Must be 21 years of age
Must be a high school/GED graduate
Must have one of the following: 2 years of armed security experience or law enforcement, OR 2 years of military service (active duty or reserve) with an honorable discharge
Previous experience as a supervisor is preferred

Summary
This position maintains continuous state of alertness and awareness to control and secure the facility and residents. Operates within legal constraints and contract agency stipulations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures that the equipment necessary for each watch is operational including radios, flashlights, and keys prior to relieving the watch. Prepares shift documentation including shift reports, work orders, security reports, and unusual incidents that are legible, concise and that meet facility's standards and contracting agency requirements.
Receives necessary information from previous shift personnel pertaining to events that transpired during the shift such as resident medical problems, disciplinary problems, or new arrivals and any special instructions. Relieves the watch and informs necessary personnel that the watch has been relieved. Makes entries into the security log showing the time the watch was relieved noting name and title.
Conducts radio checks documenting results in the security log. Conducts facility counts at the prescribed times and ensures the logbooks in the buildings are accurate as to count.
Frequently patrols building to observe and listen to individual residents and groups of residents and monitors the state of the building. Examples of activities include smelling for marijuana, listening to conversations, or ensuring doors and windows are properly secured.
Ensures that the building picture board has a picture of all residents assigned to the building and that the picture is in the proper bed slot.
Organizes and supervises resident work details to assist in maintaining facility cleanliness to ensure that facility meets facility's and contracting agency requirements.
Performs activities on both a scheduled and random basis including urinalysis testing, pat downs, shakedowns, counts, or breath tests, to maintain control and security of the residents and facility.
Documents disciplinary action for rule violations according to procedure to comply with contracting agency requirements and log accordingly.
Conducts scheduled and impromptu cleanliness checks of the facility and resident's personal belonging to maintain it in an orderly and clean fashion to meet health and environmental requirements. This includes all rooms within the facility and residents' personal belongings.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Required:
* High School Diploma or equivalent. Per the Civil Service Rules & Regulations.
* Be a citizen of the United States and after employment reside in the City of Cheyenne or a reasonable distance (10 Miles) therefrom, within the State of Wyoming.
* Can speak, read, and write the English language readily & understandably.
* Be of good moral character, reputation, and personality.
* Be financially responsible and free of serious criminal record.
* Be not less than 21 years of age at the time of employment offer is tendered.
* Be of body weight proportional to body height
* Be capable of strenuous physical activity and in the opinion of a physician selected by the commission, have no serious physical defects likely to prevent strenuous physical activity during the 20 years after employment; have eyesight in each eye corrected to 20/20 Snellen; have no hearing deficiency, and have a thumb and either a forefinger or middle finger on each hand.
* Indicate mature judgement, emotional stability, and an aptitude for police work.
* Have a valid driver's license from any state.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
* Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid professional police officer certificate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; operating assigned office equipment; strenuous physical activity; operation of motorized equipment; discharging of firearms. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing, and operating assigned equipment. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
