Server engineer job description

Duties- Responsible for the engineering of server infrastructure. Designs infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations. Ensures that the design and integration of proposed solutions leads to the development and growth of the business through effective use of technology.

Facilitates the optimization of business unit performance by enhancing the alignment between business systems and information technology. Evaluates new products, performs server problem resolution and assists in the development and documentation of technical standards and interface applications.

Responsible for server planning, design and engineering. Determines feasibility from technical and economic perspectives. Evaluates equipment specifications and process requirements to conceive a practical design. Compiles and analyzes operational data and directs tests to establish standard for new designs or modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes.

Plans and evaluates complex server systems and makes recommendations for resources required to develop, maintain and/or expand service levels. Provides consultative support to facilitate design and to resolve design problems. May also monitor server performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.

Plans, coordinates, and implements server security measures. Anticipates and mitigates potential issues through server or other connections to ensure the security of the system. Provides strategic planning and participation for disaster recovery operations.

Updates knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in technology. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Provides counsel and leadership on future use of technology and system improvements.

Ensures compliance with audit requirements. Addresses vulnerabilities within audit-mandated time frames. Maintains effective security/backup and disaster recovery processes and systems. Provides guidance to technical support personnel as needed. May lead the gathering of business needs as well as the design of solutions through direct interaction with business unit leaders.

Maintains effective relationships with suppliers to ensure appropriate levels of support. Plans large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. May interface with vendors to identify and purchase hardware and software.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of server systems and applications. Able to perform high-level server planning, design, and optimization. Able to suggest plans to integrate new and existing designs and provide input into highly complex and high impacting decisions. Advanced technical knowledge of servers, communications, and related hardware and software. Strong knowledge of emerging technologies for applications to the enterprise. Capable of taking on the role of project leader for special enterprise-wide assignments. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people. Strong understanding of technical problems and solutions in relation to the current, as well as the future business environment. High level of understanding of organization business systems and processes as well as industry-wide requirements. Proficiency with server technologies and platforms. Required Software and Tools: Advanced understanding of relevant server hardware and software.

Performs advanced implementation/support for systems application and monitoring. Responsible for installing configuring and maintaining operating system workstations and servers including web servers in support of business processing requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance. Develops and promotes standard operating procedures. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of server to ensure compliance with established standards policies and configuration guidelines. Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation. Provides integrated team support and maintenance of Technical Services hardware and software. Provides design and implementation support for server hardware Microsoft Windows operating systems virtualization Active Directory Group Policy TCP/IP/DHCP/DNS IIS SQL Exchange Clustering Load Balancing SAN/NAS and advanced support. Provides assigned on call support during nightly on call rotation and upon escalation.

Position Compensation Range: $34.61 - $55.38 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required
Experience: 3 years relevant experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Licensure: None required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The primary responsibility of the Server Engineer is to code Golang microservices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Write Golang microservices that will be under load (including unit and functional tests). Work closely with the DevOPs and SecOPs team to ensure a scalable and secure system. Work with a large collaborative team to create a best-in-class gaming product. Perform job duties in a safe manner. Attend work as scheduled on a consistent and regular basis. Perform other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications


At least 21 years of age. Proof of authorization to work in the United States. High school diploma or equivalent or equivalent experience. Must be able to obtain and maintain any certification or license, as required by law or policy. Deep knowledge of building high available and scalable applications. Experience with test driven development. Golang experience highly preferred (otherwise: C++, C#, Java, Python). Knowledge of writing microservices that can handle load preferred. Ability to write APIs (gRPC experience preferred). Experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred). Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes preferred. Experience in the gaming industry preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in spoken and written form.
