Sage Haus
Service assistant job in New York, NY
Title: House Manager & Family Assistant
Employment Type: Part-time (10-15 hours per week to start; potential to grow based on family's needs)
Requirements: Maintain a smoke-free and peanut free environment (severe peanut allergy present as well as walnut allergy), up-to-date on routine vaccinations, pass background check
Proposed Schedule: Monday-Thursday preferred (2-6 PM or 3-6 PM), with flexibility for occasional Friday coverage or adjusted hours as projects require.
Description:
We're a warm, professional family of four, with two high school aged teenagers and one 40-lb dog. Both children are independent and self-sufficient, but the energy of our home is always moving - full of activity, decisions, and daily logistics.
Both parents work full-time in demanding corporate roles, balancing hybrid office schedules. We're also navigating a home renovation that will continue through the next several months. Between project coordination, meal planning, and managing daily household needs, we're looking for an organized, proactive partner to help keep life running smoothly.
We value warmth, communication, and reliability - someone who can step in, create order, and help us focus more on family time at the end of the day.
Who You Are / What We're Looking For:
You're a dynamic, proactive professional who thrives on bringing structure and ease to busy households. You're not easily flustered by change - you anticipate needs, create systems, and find satisfaction in making sure the details are handled. You bring strong organizational and administrative skills, balanced by warmth, creativity, and a genuine desire to help.
You're comfortable juggling multiple responsibilities - from prepping healthy snacks for the kids and dinners for the family to managing household vendors. You communicate clearly, take initiative, and have an intuitive sense of what helps a home function at its best.
You enjoy being around teenagers and can connect with them in a relaxed, respectful way. You're comfortable with dogs and can move around an active household confidently. A creative eye for design or visual organization is a huge plus - whether that's reorganizing spaces after the renovation, helping with family projects, or refining household systems to make daily life smoother.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Support
Substantial cooking experience - experience with various cooking methods and able to incorporate seasonings and spices, this person can make a recipe come alive.
Plan and prepare 4+ healthy, family meals per week and homemade snacks.
Follow family dietary guidelines and preferences: severe peanut allergy and a peanut free household, walnut allergy, Type 1 diabetic who prefers low-carb, children who prefer carbs and varied protein-forward meals with vegetarian options, also a plus to have Indian options.
Shop for groceries and meal-related items
Clean and reset kitchen after meal prep.
Experiment with new recipes, learn family recipes, and build a family menu rotation.
Family Support & Administrative Assistance
Manage family calendar, appointments, and reminders. Proficient with technology.
Assist with travel planning, scheduling, and logistics as needed.
Coordinate events and appointments when appropriate.
Have a hand in doing research for restaurants, resources, and local activities for the family.
Help coordinate household vendors and renovation contacts.
Light pet duties - occasionally walk and feed the family dog.
Support administrative tasks such as insurance claims and estate-related follow-ups.
Serve as a creative partner with a strong visual eye - someone who enjoys bringing order, style, and design sensibility to household projects and spaces.
Inventory & Errands
Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, and household supplies.
Create and manage running household supply lists
Coordinate and manage household orders (e.g., Amazon, Target, etc.)
Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping, etc.
Household Organization & Maintenance
Maintain household organization systems (closets, pantry, storage, gear).
Reset and tidy rooms daily; maintain overall neatness, making beds, ensure hope is prepped for weekly cleaning services
Conduct seasonal swaps (clothing, bedding, decor, etc.).
Prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs and pick-ups.
Supervise or coordinate with service providers/vendors (e.g., handymen, cleaners, landscapers)
Load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, and vacuum high-traffic areas.
Care for indoor and outdoor plants (a green thumb is a plus).
Laundry & Linens
Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (e.g., clothing, bedding, towels)
Iron, steam, and prepare outfits as needed
Manage linens: rotate bedding, refresh towels, restock essentials
Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies
Handle special care for delicates or uniforms

Research and coordinate repairs, maintenance, and quotes
Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
Organize rooms and spaces during and post-renovation.
Lead creative organization projects (e.g., photo albums)
Tackle occasional deep cleans (fridge, oven, baseboards, etc.)
Maintain and refresh specific zones (entryways, garage, mudroom)
Reorganizing specific spaces (e.g., office)
