Service Net history

1910's1910Mental Health America facilitated the creation of more than 100 child guidance clinics in the United States aimed at prevention, early intervention and treatment.

1920's1920Mental Health America produced a set of model commitment laws, which were subsequently incorporated into the statutes of several states.

1930's1930Mental Health America convened the First International Congress on Mental Hygiene in Washington D.C., bringing together more than 3,000 individuals from 41 countries.

1949 Mental Health America launched Mental Health Week (which eventually became Mental Health Month) with the Jaycees to educate Americans about mental illness and mental health.

1963Community Mental Health Centers Act calls for deinstitutionalization and increased community services. (1963)

Northampton State Hospital closed as a result of a class action lawsuit filed in 1978 which held that people living with mental illness deserved treatment in the least restrictive setting possible.

1979 - Meridian Associates for Programs and Resources is Founded in Pittsfield

1980's and Depression (NARSAD), a foundation formed with the purpose of raising private sector funds to support research on mental illnesses.

1990's1990Mental Health America and the American Red Cross jointly published and distributed more than 250,000 copies of When the Yellow Ribbons Come Down, a guidebook to help Operation Desert Storm veterans and their families cope with readjusting to life at home.

1991 - Valley Programs and NAMHS merge

The Sun Belt Service Net, which originated in 1992, was a spin-off of the North Florida Phone Net (NFPN) on 3.950 MHz., that met each night of the week, to pass emergency and formal traffic.

In June 1993, KF4RO began the search for a new Net Manger.

1994 - ServiceNet opens its first Developmental Disabilities (DDS) Group Home

TELUS: In 2005, Canada’s second-largest telecommunications company, Telus, began blocking access to a server that hosted a website supporting a labor strike against the company.

2007 investigations from the Associated Press, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and others confirmed that Comcast was indeed blocking or slowing file-sharing applications without disclosing this fact to its customers.

WINDSTREAM: In 2010, Windstream Communications, a DSL provider with more than 1 million customers at the time, copped to hijacking user-search queries made using the Google toolbar within Firefox.

MetroPCS: In 2011, MetroPCS, at the time one of the top-five United States wireless carriers, announced plans to block streaming video over its 4G network from all sources except YouTube.

EUROPE: A 2012 report from the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications found that violations of Net Neutrality affected at least one in five users in Europe.

FCC in 2013, judges asked whether the phone giant would favor some preferred services, content or sites over others if the court overruled the agency’s existing open internet rules.

The court struck down the FCC’s rules in January 2014 — and in May, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler opened a public proceeding to consider a new order.

In response millions of people urged the FCC to reclassify broadband providers as common carriers and in February 2015, the agency did just that.
