Your Day-to-Day: As a Preventative Maintenance Technician I, you'll:

Pay: $17.45 - $32.41 Hourly

Position Summary:
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join our team and play a vital role in providing exceptional service and support for our analytical instrumentation. In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of service-related functions, including the repair, maintenance, and performance verification of assigned products, including demo equipment and instruments returned from customers.
JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Provide daily repair and maintenance support for assigned products.
Conduct in-house bench repairs as needed while primarily handling field service calls with limited supervision.
Travel within the local region (including day and overnight trips) to support customer needs.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
At least four years of experience in repairing analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, LCMS, AA, or similar instruments.
Strong technical knowledge and understanding of these technologies.

Compensation & Benefits:
This full-time, non-exempt position comes with a comprehensive benefits package. In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 paid scheduled holidays and 3 paid floating holidays (Residents of California and Puerto Rico will receive state-mandated sick leave instead of personal days). After one year of employment, you will also be eligible for a generous short-term disability program with the company covering 100% of monthly premiums.
The starting salary range for this role is $75,000 to $77,000 annually, paid semi-monthly. As a non-exempt position, you will be eligible for overtime and double time pay, as outlined in our employee handbook. Additional variable compensation includes an incentive plan (10% of base salary) based on company and service performance, paid semi-annually in April and October. About the Role
Position involves all aspects of the assembly processes including putting up inventory stock, parts pulling, assembling, repair/restock/warranty evaluations, testing and service, wash/prep/paint, packing, shipping /receiving and general clean up. The main focus of the position at this time is in the Returned Goods Authorization Department.
Pay Range $21 - $30 (hour)
Hand assembly of gear motors, reducers, and adjustable drives, maintain parts stock between assembly lines, putting up inventory stock, parts pulling, repair/restock/warranty evaluations, testing and service, wash/prep/paint, packing, shipping/receiving and general clean up.
Must read and understand supporting documentation for the work area, use calipers, depth & paint millage gauges, and visually inspect all work and rework as necessary.
Assess each situation and do not perform any tasks which s/he feels is unsafe, on which s/he has not received training, or engage in any unsafe work practices. Report any unsafe condition to his/her manager.
May be required to travel on Company business to any required destination domestically as well as overseas. May be required to stay overnight for extended periods of time, obtain lodging, and occasionally conduct business in the evenings, weekends, and holidays and outside of normal business hours. Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and driving record satisfactory to SEW-EURODRIVE or otherwise be able to transport yourself to and from various locations, including customer facilities, to engage in diverse business activities.

Overview:

Constructs proper splicing in fiber enclosures and fiber termination panels to include grounding, bonding, isolation, storage and sealing in both aerial and underground applications.
Plans and installs fiber distribution panels, relay racks or cabinets with all associated hardware and electronics in a head end or OTN site.
Executes large fiber count ring cuts/hot cuts during scheduled maintenance windows with minimum downtime to the network or customer services.
Performs fiber audits to identify the physical characteristics of existing fiber plant from fiber matings, terminations, colors to splices and network elements while documenting and updating records.
Performs testing utilizing OTDR's, Power Meter/Light Sources, OLTS and VFLs; interprets and analyzes data; identifies and troubleshoots problems.
Reads, creates, and maintains accurate splicing schematics, records, and diagrams.
Performs aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, installing fiber storage (snowshoes), completing pole transfers, and performing necessary clean-up work.
Performs underground construction activities, including but not limited to, pulling cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals.

The Role
Complete installation, repairs and testing of fiber and the different components
Splice loose tube and ribbon fiber in compliance with modern standards
Connect and configure fiber optic networks for facilities while troubleshooting problems
Read splicing print and apply color code to print reading
Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
Basic daily maintenance of TAK provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
Ongoing monitoring to ensure that splicing operations are completed according to customer and industry specifications
Safely operate and use a bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments, and pull the fiber trailer as needed
Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built and tracks daily production
Reconcile all issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material usage counts
Frequently works with minimal or no supervision
Perform general clean up
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
3+ years of fiber splicing experience required
Ability to use and understand splicing technology such as OTDRs, VFL, OLTS and Fusion Splice
Prior experience with CWDM and DWDM, prepping & splicing from 6ct to 288ct or more
Ability to work outside of business hours when needed, overtime, holidays, evenings, weekends etc., in all seasons
Ability to safely operate a vehicle while pulling a trailer
Ability to complete tasks with small components and wires
Ability to judge distance and space relationships
Ability to interpret splicing print and distinguish/apply color code to print reading
Ability to use specialty tools
Ability to carry, climb, operate, and work upon an extension ladder (approximately 28 feet high and 75 pounds)
Ability to complete work outdoors, in tight spaces and elevated by bending, reaching, twisting, climbing, and working while standing up to 70% of the time
Ability to safely work and navigate various terrains, managing equipment, safety equipment and tools
A body weight of no more than 275 pounds to perform ladder work safely. **Safety is our #1 Priority. If personal safety is not compromised, an accommodation may be available based on previous ladder experience in a similar role**

What you will do
Under general supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of HVAC Automation Systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards. Provides safety awareness on work sites.
May provide training to customers on electronic control systems operations. Delivers manuals and documentation to the customer for training needs as required. Mentors and trains mechanical workforce on building automation systems. Provides support to the mechanical staff on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
Conducts extensive self study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
What we look for
Required
Vocational School four year program or an Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field plus three years of industry experience or five years' experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
Generally required knowledge includes HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques.
Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical Building Automation equipment on a job site.
PC experience required and the ability to program HVAC related software.
Experience with Johnson Controls Equipment and Software is a must.
