The Hotel Maintenance HVAC Tech assists in the safe installation and maintenance of all commercial grade plumbing, and HVAC systems by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)
Safe installation and maintenance of all commercial grade plumbing and HVAC systems including, but not limited to, building heat plants, ventilation systems, air conditioning, controls systems, refrigeration, and LP delivery.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair of commercial air conditioning and multi-zone heating and cooling systems.
Identifies maintenance risks on equipment.
Diagnoses electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
Performs emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
Provides technical direction and on-the-job training.
Assists in a preventive maintenance program that encompasses all commercial building at JPR.
Assists in researching and selecting materials for HVAC systems installation, repair, and maintenance.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Maintains familiarity with maintaining a complex Building Management Systems (BMS).
Implements energy savings projects.
Works with other depts to ensure HAVC systems are operating as designed.
Ensures compliance with appliance standards and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which could be directly related, or unrelated to original position.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year certification from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must have experience with Microsoft Suite and Building Management Systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have valid Vermont Operator's License and be eligible for Jay Peak Inc's motor vehicle insurance policy. Must also possess LP, Refrigeration and HVAC certifications.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must have general knowledge of building maintenance practices and plumbing.

RESORT CONDITIONS
This is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multilevel buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out. Work days and hours, as well as the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.

Position Overview
The HVAC/DDC Controls Technician plays a key role in maintaining and optimizing the Burlington School District's heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This position performs skilled technical work involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of complex HVAC and control systems - including both direct digital and pneumatic controls - to ensure reliable, energy-efficient operation across district facilities.
Essential Functions:
Install, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC and refrigeration units including chillers, boilers, and heat pumps.
Diagnose and correct system malfunctions to maintain optimal performance.
Conduct preventive maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of systems and controls.
Service, wire, and program automated building management and DDC control systems.
Replace and repair components such as compressors, motors, coils, and expansion valves.
Perform system balancing and adjust air and water treatment systems.
Identify and resolve condensation and ventilation issues.
Provide technical guidance and training for other technicians and staff.
Assist with the design and modification of HVAC systems.
Maintain detailed service logs, reports, and supply requests.
Respond promptly to emergency service requests.
Uphold a safe learning environment and comply with all district safety and operational policies.
Qualifications
Education:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Licenses & Certifications (Required):
Type S C3 License
Natural Gas Certification
Refrigerant Recovery Certification
Valid Driver's License
Preferred:
HVAC Certification (State of Vermont)
Type S Electrical and/or Plumbing License
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience working with complex HVAC systems and DDC controls (including chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and automated control systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong working knowledge of HVAC principles, diagnostics, and control systems.
Proficiency with computer applications (Word, Excel, email, internet).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Skilled in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
Understanding of Vermont electrical and HVAC codes and safety regulations.
Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and continuous learning.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
