1979

In 1979, the CTA put into service the first 55 foot “articulated” buses.

1982

Cleveland was serviced by the industry's "Big 5": Roadway, Consolidated Freightways, Pacific Intermountain-Express, Yellow Freight, and McLean Trucking which, with federal deregulation in 1982, became only Roadway, Consolidated Freightways, and Yellow Freight.

1988

The Department of Parking & Transit Services was officially created on September 1, 1988

1990

In 1990, the CTA purchased its first wheelchair accessible buses from Transportation Manufacturing Corporation.

1995

In 1995, Chicago saw the introduction of the first low floor buses, which eliminate steps at the front of the bus in an effort to make the buses more accessible for wheelchairs and the elderly.

1999

The University approved the purchase of 22 new Nova buses in 1999

2001

The Board of Regents approved the purchase of an additional 24 buses in 2001

2006

In 2006, the CTA purchased its first diesel-electric hybrid buses from New Flyer of America, Inc.

2007

The University approved the purchase of 25 new RTS Millenium buses in 2007.

2014

The University approved the purchase of 10 new Gillig buses in 2014.

2016

In order to accommodate the growing student population service hours have increased to approximately 140,000 in FY 2016.

2020

In 2020, Los Angeles announced a plan to add 155 electric buses to the city’s fleet.
