I. SCOPE OF ROLE: The EmploymentSpecialist will provide work readiness, pre and post-employment services, job development, and supportive services to program participants living with mental health
conditions.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Represents the agency to the community at large and participates in professional meetings.

Position Summary
Under the direction of Program Manager, the EmploymentSpecialist (ES) is responsible for assisting individuals in finding, securing, and maintaining employment. This role involves providing career counseling, job search assistance, and support services to both job seekers, beginning while they are in custody at NYC DOC facilities, and employers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of labor market trends, creating job leads for participants' and have excellent communication skills, with the ability to achieve departmental goals.

Attention to Detail
The ES must demonstrate competency to develop systems and processes to organize and keep track of placement, case management efforts, employer research and work progress; is routinely conscientious, thorough, accurate and reliable when performing and completing job tasks; and recognizes trends, detects inconsistencies, and determines essential details. Collaboration
The ES must collaborate and coordinate with one another to provide care and support to those who need higher levels of supervision and/or more support in developing the soft skills required in order to maintain employment, anchoring support from the supervisor when necessary before someone is placed. The ES will also collaborate with Transition Planning team members at NYC DOC facilities in order to begin connecting individuals to the community Employment Services' team prior to their release from incarceration. Additionally, the ES will need to collaborate with the Business Services Coordinator and other EmploymentSpecialists' to effectively place individuals for employment post release with employer partners engaged through their direct outreach efforts.
Networking
The ES has a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, leveraging various communication outlets.
They also have a demonstrated ability to connect others to active networking sources. The ES will remain informed and participate in networking events to support and enhance their role, with the intent to use networking events to increase resources and referral opportunities that will lead to employment opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct one-on-one employment counseling sessions with program participants pre-release at NYC DOC facilities and post release as needed to assess their skills, interest and employment goals and support any barriers to employment. Develop personalized job search strategies and career development plans;
Assist participants with editing their resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques. Support with on-site and off-site job/resource fairs;
Build and maintain relationships with local employers to identify job openings and employment opportunities. Create employer engagement events to increase new employment opportunities and placements. Promote program services to organizations and businesses to foster employer partnerships;

Establish and maintain strong relationships with participants by providing support, guidance, and feedback throughout the placement process. Monitor participants progress in their new jobs and provide post-placement support to ensure retention. Address any barriers to employment and connect clients with relevant resources;
Maintain accurate records of participants interactions, job placements, and outcomes. Prepare reports and statistics on employment services provided. Document all engagement in Case Worthy to ensure all parties involved are aware in real-time of participant activities, and support is provided where appropriate. Participate in internal and external training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. The Individual Placement Support (IPS) EmploymentSpecialist is a core member of the ACT Team and is responsible for helping individuals with serious mental illness obtain and maintain competitive employment and pursue educational goals using the evidence-based IPS model.

Key Responsibilities
Actively collaborate with the ACT Team and other Unity House programs to develop, implement, and monitor individualized employment services.
Provide direct support to participants seeking competitive employment, including resume development, completing job applications, and supporting the interview process.
Assist participants with educational services, including coordination and visits to local GED programs, vocational programs, and colleges.
Provide follow-along job coaching and ongoing support to assist individuals in maintaining employment.
Build and maintain relationships with local employers to support community-based employment opportunities.
Maintain accurate and timely case record documentation in accordance with program funding requirements and Unity House policies.
Ensure the electronic health record system is updated appropriately, including required employment-related documentation.
Participate in ACT Team meetings, service planning, and coordination of care.
Promote and model an environment of inclusion, respect, and belonging for participants and colleagues.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
At least six (6) months of personal or professional experience in human services working with individuals with severe mental illness.
Experience providing employment services to individuals with barriers to employment preferred.
Valid New York State driver's license with a clean driving record.
Reliable transportation and ability to travel independently, with or without reasonable accommodations, throughout the community.
Ability to conduct outreach with local employers and work in community-based settings.
Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to produce reports and effectively use computer software and electronic documentation systems.

Qualifications
Education and/or experience required:
• Associate's degree in related field or related work experience in job placement, community relations, and employment readiness.

Provides direct supports to people enrolled in a variety of employment programs based on their interests and desires. This person ensures delivery of Community Based Prevocational, Supported Employment (SEMP), ETP, ACCES-VR and other OPWDD employment programs.
Performs vocational assessments, compiles reports, conducts person-centered employment planning, job-related discovery, job development, analysis, customization, and placement. This person must have the ability to work independently, problem solve on the spot, and think critically without on-site supervision.
Implements a variety of training techniques, interventions and teaching procedures aimed at providing employment opportunities to people receiving supports.
Responsible for the safety of each person and provides training to facilitate inclusion into community employment related settings.
Ensures delivery of Community Based Prevocational, Supported Employment (SEMP), ETP, ACCES-VR and other OPWDD employment programs.
Documents and verifies detailed daily data collection, monthly notes and other required documentation as outlined by regulatory bodies.
May be required to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Human Services field. At the discretion of the Employer, four years of experience working in a direct support position within this agency or an Associate's Degree with two years of experience working in a direct support position within this agency, along with demonstrated competencies in completion of the required duties, may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
Minimum Experience:
One year of experience relevant to assigned location.

Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Avoids gossip and negative discussions. Remains flexible and adapts to change.

Remains responsive to the cultural needs of individuals receiving support and HeartShare employees.
Performs other Training Department related duties as the need arises and as requested, at the discretion of the AVP of Workforce Development.
