Servpro company history timeline

1967

Ted and Doris Isaacson launched SERVPRO in 1967 as a painting business in Sacramento, Calif.

1969

When the founders decided that they did not care for that line of work, they soon turned to cleanup and restoration and franchised their concept in 1969.

Servpro began franchising in 1969, perhaps leaning heavily on the program ServiceMaster had in place.

1979

Servpro was involved in franchising for a decade, and then in 1979 expanded through the acquisition of Bristol-Myers' Domesticare Division.

1986

However, in 1986, according to the Nashville Business Journal, Ted Isaacson's partner attempted to force him out by enlisting the support of 51 percent of the shareholders.

The brothers also took steps to diversify, in 1986 establishing a new franchise, Building Service Maintenance, growing out of a division formed the prior year to perform janitorial work at night at commercial and institutional buildings.

In addition, Rick Forster stayed on as chief financial officer, a post he had held since 1986.

1989

By 1989 the Isaacson family owned about 80 percent of the stock.

1990

Further, in 1990 their sister, Susan L. Steen, was named to the board.

In 1990 Randy Isaacson succeeded his father as Servpro's president and served on the board of directors.

1991

The company's headquarters quickly became a key contributor in its community, and in 1991 the Nashville Business Journal named Servpro Industries, LLC, the Small Business of the Year.

1995

When her parents decided to retire in 1995, they asked her to join her brothers at the company.

1998

Miller, Karin, "Flooded Out, Full of Smoke? Servpro Cleans Up Literally, Financially, Too," Associated Press, April 23, 1998.

2000

The company continued its impressive growth, selling the 1,000th Franchise in 2000.

2001

To better serve them, in 2001 Servpro introduced its ScanER electronic claims software program, which allowed franchisees to create an electronic job file that included digital photos of the property, an estimate, and all the necessary documents needed to process a claim and track its status.

2005

In 2005, Servpro Industries, LLC, moved to a new 140,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Gallatin to provide more room for expansion.

2019

In March 2019, the investment firm Blackstone acquired a majority stake in SERVPRO. True to its beginnings, it remains a family-owned business.

2021

Government spending records show that $4 billion was allocated to HHS for unaccompanied children in the fiscal year 2021 budget, with $2.8 billion allocated mostly to four companies with experiences heavily skewed toward federal disaster cleanups.
