Set-up operator job description

• Set Up Operator Possess good working knowledge of Injection Molding process.
• Setup molds and start mold per Molding Setup Report.
• Correctly fill out appropriate documentation for material allocation, material identification, production cards, special instructions tags and labels.
• Set-Up operators are responsible to read part drawings and verify parts for quality requirements.
• Ability to make process changes and document changes as required.
• Make sure the "Machine Book" has all required job information before starting job.
• Clean and / or fill hoppers when required.
• Tumble material per specifications when required.
• Clean and empty grinders when required.
• Keep last 4 shots and fill out die repair tags for Supervisor's signature at end of run.
• Set Up Operators capable to run automatic jobs when required.
• Weigh up production at the end of your shift and fill in production cards when required.
• Communicate effectively with preceding and succeeding shift Setup Technicians and Machine Operators on a daily basis.
• Ability to diagnose and make minor maintenance repairs, replace fuses etc.
• Support injection molding setup and process requirements.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE POSITION AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understands how to utilize a variety of precise measurement devices correctly.
• Knows how to document and shift items from one activity to the next.
• Must be able to read and comprehend the Automatics' print requirements.
• Can demonstrate understanding of and proficiency with a computerized SPC system by inputting data in accordance with procedures.
• Understands all record-keeping obligations, including approval of the first item, lot splits, and job card/scanner input.
• The daily lubrication of assigned machines is your responsibility.
• Select the appropriate tooling for the project at hand.
• Sharpening tools, troubleshooting machines, setting speeds and feeds for correct materials, and small repairs are all required skills.
• The capacity to set up and operate many equipment in a department with little or no supervision.
• Problem-solving skills and the capacity to collaborate with supervisors, engineers, maintenance personnel, and other departments are required.
• Maintains a clean environment in the allocated area.
• Supervisor or his/her designee may allocate additional responsibilities.

Overall goal is to produce turned parts by independently setting up and operating machinery to manufacture parts to customer specifications within company standards for safety, quality, and productivity.

Essential Job Duties

• Must be able to perform duties and have obtained the knowledge/ skill of Machinist 1st Operation.
• Review machine layout instructions and set up machine per layout.
• Discuss and agree upon changes to layout with Supervisor and Engineering as appropriate.
• Document all changes to machine/tool layout.
• Run production; assure parts meet customer specifications by measuring parts per inspection plan.
• Enter SPC as required and properly respond to out-of-control conditions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve machining problems.
• Instruct other employees in use, care, and operation of machines as appropriate.
• Perform maintenance on and repair mechanical problems on screw machines as necessary.
• Communicate all necessary information to Management, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, other production departments and follow employees in a professional and courteous manner.
• Complete all paperwork per proper procedures (routing card, tool change logs, count sheets etc.).
• Properly identify parts and enter production into information system.
• Housekeeping: maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner, keep floors clean and free of oil & chips.
• Perform all safety inspections to equipment daily, use proper machine guards and lifting techniques.
• Follow company policies, procedures and safety rules as described in the Employee Handbook

Requirements and Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to use basic math and understand instructions
• Minimum of 1-3 years experience on screw machine operation and set up
• Ability to read and understand Blueprints and Inspection Plans
• Ability to use and interpret all precision measuring gauges including micrometers and calipers, comparators and special gauges
