Pay

This will consist of 3 young adult members and one leader. This team will be working with the US Forest Service in Hope, AK to restore natural structure and function to Resurrection Creek, which was straightened during placer mining operations in the early 20th century. The restoration includes rebuilding the degraded stream channel and floodplains, constructing pools, side channels and ponds, installing logs and root-wads, and re-vegetating stream banks and riparian areas. Resurrection Creek is important salmon spawning habitat that has been nearly unusable since the changes made during mining operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure project, basecamp, community, and general safety standards are upheld; full engagement is expected in all service projects and community/team activities.
• Uniform: AmeriCorps Member will be required to wear the AmeriCorps and SCA logo daily
• Interfacing with general public and partner organizations in a manner that reflects positively upon the crew, organization, and agency .
• Play an active role in learning and executing the logistics of a project, cooking meals, understanding emergency response plans, critically thinking about risk and hazard mitigation, and completing all necessary paperwork related to member service activities.
• Comply with all SCA, NPS/USFS/USFWS/BLM, and AmeriCorps policies and refrain from any prohibited activities.
The team will live in close proximity and eat meals together; they will spend most of the program camping, but may also have access to a bunkhouse. The team will work with each other to resolve conflict and build relationships in a remote area. Cell service and modern amenities will be limited or unavailable during the work week. This team will work in small, tight-knit community, and positive representation of SCA is expected during days off as well as during the work week.
While working with the US Forest Service, the team will be able to network with professionals in natural resources and recreation management. The crew will have unique opportunities to learn about different career paths in recreation and natural resources and see first-hand what their work consists of.
Members should be prepared to camp throughout the summer and face the challenges of weather, insects, remoteness and wildlife typical of outdoor work in Alaska. This is an opportunity to learn the hard and soft skills required for work in the outdoor industry; folks will walk away with experience in conservation trail work, leadership, interpersonal skills, and outdoor living skills.

Placement will be residing at the Forest Service bunkhouse or other shared housing unit with communal kitchen, living room, and bathroom/laundry room. Kitchens include stove, oven, sink, fridge, and are stocked with cooking and eating ware.
Certainly one of the most rugged and remote postings in the country, the Yakutat Ranger District is 1.3 million acres of National Forest located at the northern edge of the Alaska panhandle, between Glacier Bay and Wrangell St Elias National Parks. Accessible only by plane or boat, it is set in a landscape of glaciers, old-growth forests, wild rivers, bays, and open ocean, and populated with moose, mountain goats, deer, 200 species of birds, wolves, and especially bears. The area supports some of the healthiest and most diverse stocks of wild Pacific salmon and trout in the world. About 700 people reside in the demographically diverse community of Yakutat which has all the basic services including a community health center, K-12 school, and 2 grocery stores, but lacks many amenities offered in larger communities. Alaska Airlines offers daily flights connecting Yakutat to Juneau, Anchorage, or Seattle. Outdoor recreational opportunities are superb and include fishing, sea kayaking, canoeing, camping, birding, hiking, wildlife viewing, and even surfing. Yakutat is a prime location for many natural resource careers at any stage.

It is designed to educate and empower young shareholders to become active members in our communities through development of leadership skills, problem-solving, and collaboration with the Choggiung Board of Directors to positively impact the future for Choggiung, Limited. The program will provide a forum to Alaska Native youth to develop their professional skills, become engaged in their communities, and promote economic, cultural, and social development through education, mentorship, experience, and job training.
To be eligible you must be a Choggiung Shareholder and between the age of 18-25 years of old.
This is a non-voting member, unpaid position. The program is designed to give young shareholders the opportunity to learn and gain experience in serving as a board director.
The following are the specific responsibilities of the youth member.
- Maintain confidentiality. All business discussed in meetings is confidential and should not be shared outside of the meeting room with friends, family, or other professional and non-professional connections.
- Participate in strategic and tactical planning meetings, quarterly board meetings, shareholder events and other corporate governance activities.
- Engage in activities such as public speaking, events, and workshops.
- Represent Choggiung Limited, its subsidiaries, and the Choggiung Board in the community.
- Acts as advisory body to the Board of Directors and Chair of the Board.
- Attend and participate in all Board Meetings to include the Annual Meeting of Shareholders.
- Provide different perspectives on issues and discussions.
- Prepare for meetings by reviewing quarterly board packets and annual agenda
- Maintain a positive attitude and exceptional professionalism to help foster positive relationships with all board members, staff, and shareholders.
- Share and contribute creative and innovative ideas to help the company grow and succeed.

Duration:
This is a one-year commitment (June 2026 through June 2027) for Choggiung Shareholder Native youth to gain professional leadership skills and Training.
Expenses:
Choggiung, Limited will pay for the following
1. Travel Expense such as airline tickets, uber, taxi, etc.
2. Per Diem for meals and incidental.
3. Lodging Cost.
