Summary
The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the packaging area along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. It is imperative the person(s) conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and surroundings. They must accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept through working with team members and following direction and instructions from their manager/supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensures there is no injury to self or others by following safe work practices (including Standard Operating Procedures) and policies.
* Food Safety is everyone's responsibility.
* Attend and participate in all training activities for the position. Ensure the acquired skills and knowledge are applied.
* Ensures sanitation of equipment and housekeeping of the entire facility.
* Ensures self-compliance with Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
* Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures that personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job functions while representing the Company.
* Performs all such other duties as may be reasonably assigned by Manager.
* Monitors check-weigher kickoffs and notifies management of concerns when necessary. Controls packaging weights for main line or specialty products.
* Monitors and ensures metal detectors are tested and fully functional.
* Reads and understands training materials, and other information related to the job and complete paperwork in a timely, efficient manner so the paperwork is thorough and legible. Must be able to enter data into computer.
* Monitors and ensures quality of bag condition, proper codes, case condition, glue condition and metal detector checks. Recycles product from faulty packaging.
* Responsible for cleanliness of work area and equipment and ensures work area meets company standards for cleanliness of work area. Responsible for data entry for sanitation into MMS.

Position Overview:
The MachineOperator Roaster is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining large industrial roasters and associated equipment in our sunflower seed roasting and seasoning facility. The Roaster Operator ensures that products are roasted and seasoned to specification, maintaining quality and efficiency while adhering to safety, hygiene, and operational protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Process Control: Operate large industrial roasters and other related machinery, including seasoning systems and conveyors, to produce high-quality sunflower seeds. Monitor roasting equipment for temperature, time, and airflow to ensure optimal product consistency and adherence to recipes. Perform start-up, shutdown, and adjustments on roasting and seasoning equipment as needed.
Quality Assurance: Conduct regular checks of roasted and seasoned product to confirm quality, color, texture, and flavor meet specifications. Record production data and quality control checks to ensure compliance with standards. Identify and address deviations from production parameters promptly.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of roasting equipment, including lubrication, filter changes, and basic troubleshooting. Work with maintenance personnel to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions.
Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines, including the use of PPE and compliance with OSHA standards. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation protocols (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding production progress, issues, or equipment needs. Assist in training new employees or cross-training team members in roasting operations.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in a food production environment preferred; experience with roasting equipment is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining product quality.
Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
