The Microbiologist I works independently on assigned Microbiological projects and conducts analyses of raw materials, finished products, and waters. As a professional scientist, the Microbiologist is expected to work under the guidance of supervisors and managers, develop skills and understanding of laboratory procedures, exhibit technical expertise, be able to document data and report findings; and stay current with Microbiological literature and standards for analyses. You will also conduct analyses of samples in accordance with USP, EP, ASTM, AOAC, FDA, EPA procedures, procedures supplied by the client, and other non-routine procedures as encountered.
Job Functions
Prepares media and reagents required for the conduct of microbiological analyses
Conducts analyses of samples in accordance with USP, EP ASTM, AOAC, FDA, EPA, or other compendia procedures, procedures supplied by the client, and other non-routine procedures as encountered
Schedules analyses so that completion deadlines are met but also so that analyses are thoroughly and thoughtfully conducted
Practices aseptic techniques and disinfection per laboratory SOPs
Responsible for accurate and timely recordkeeping, diligently following standards for analysis and SOPs
Accountable for quality assurance tasks vital to the position, including, but not limited to, lab area monitoring, media qualification, incubator, instrument and equipment calibration, and maintenance and sterilization procedures
Access appropriate technical references and document data in notebooks and LIMS
Data entry, receiving/returning calls, sending/receiving information, copying of documents, processing assignments
Documents activities in accordance with cGMP
Maintains orderly work area

What you'll do:
Laboratory and testing
* Conduct contamination assessment by preparing and plating samples for Total Plate Count, Yeast and Mold, E. Coli, Salmonella, etc…
* Conduct Probiotic Assays using appropriate agar and preparations conditions
* Perform allergen assessments by ELISA to ensure safety
* Perform GMO analysis using PCR
* Conduct challenge studies to assess anti-microbial properties of material
Lab maintenance and management
* Prepare and sterilize equipment, glassware, and media to ensure aseptic conditions.
* Monitor and manage lab supplies, ordering what is needed to ensure continuous operation.
* Adhere strictly to safety protocols, calibrating instruments and validating test methods.
Data and documentation
* Accurately record and document all observations, data, and results in lab notebooks and electronic systems.

Job Overview and Responsibilities:
The sample prep technician is responsible for the processing of customer samples by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices.
The technician role requires receiving and following work instructions from the Branch Supervisor, Manager, admin personnel, and other support staff throughout the day to process and prioritize client samples. Working conditions include lifting and carrying (must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs) client samples to and from equipment during various stages of sample preparation. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Receive, sort, and document sample information in our system, as well as any non-conforming samples (damaged, mislabelled, extra, missing, etc.).
* Receive processing instructions from administrative and managerial staff through the medium of job notes: shift meetings, and various electronic tools such as SMS.
* Use industrial equipment to carry out samples preparation for testing including drying, crushing, splitting, pulverizing, and other sample prep' processing in accordance with our standard operating procedures and policies.

* Inform the Sample Preparation Supervisor of any nonconforming event related to client samples, or other departmental operations.
* Inform the Sample Preparation Supervisor of any unsafe conditions within the department.
* Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment.
* Ensure proper functioning of Sample Prep operations by:
* Mnitoring the performance of the equipment.
* Ensuring adequate inventry of supplies.
* Practicing god housekeeping.
* Communicate general laboratory issues to the Sample Preparation Supervisor as appropriate.
* Some lifting is required, up to 50lbs.
* Perform other duties as required by management.

Our Dayton, NJ laboratory is seeking an entry-level Lab Technician I to join their General Chemistry team! The Lab Technician I will prepare samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.
Job Functions
* After appropriate training independently prepare samples for analysis according to SGS' analytical SOPs using basic instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies
* Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of prep instruments/equipment
* May assist with validation and MDL studies.
* Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
* Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
* Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
* Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
* High school diploma (Required)
* 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or prior experience working with one's hands (Required)
* Associates Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Preferred)
* 1-2 years of years' relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)
* Language Skills: English (Required)
* Mathematical Skills: Basic (Required)
* Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Basic (Required)
* Computer Skills: Basic (Required)
* Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
