Hendricks's acquisition spree continued in 1985 with the purchase of seven independent building centers and another seven former Genstar stores in November.
In the space of less than 34 months, Hendricks had opened or acquired 48 stores (or roughly one new center every three weeks). By the end of 1986, ABC's empire stood at 600 employees and revenues of $183 million, earning it first place on the Inc.'s prestigious list.
1986: Jim Inglis became president of the company.
In 1987 Hendricks and his wife Diane were named Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneurs of the Year" and stepped back to consolidate their gains.
1988: Central Warehouse began functioning as Central Purchasing department.
By early 1990 ABC's work force had grown to 850, its sales had climbed to $280 million, and it had yet to experience a year in which sales grew less than 25 percent.
1990: West Palm Beach, Florida branch store opened.
With such incentives dangling before them, by 1991 ABC's employees were generating a prodigious $450,000 a year in sales, more than twice the industry average.
The recession in the northeast presented Hendricks with new buying opportunities in that region, and by the end of 1991 ABC had expanded to 92 stores in a network that now reached coast to coast.
In February 1992, Hennesy stepped down, replaced as chairman and CEO by Scarlett.
By September 1992 sales had vaulted to $750 million and Hendricks announced that, in keeping with the reclamation impulse that fueled ABC's sales, its new corporate office building would be erected in an abandoned manufacturing plant in downtown Beloit.
The stock offering was completed in February 1994 and shares began trading on the NASDAQ.
Following its initial public offering, TSC made a push into North Carolina in 1994, and for the year added 13 stores to the chain with plans to add more at a clip of 20 stores per year.
1994: HSC Direct/Aeroquip Express store opened in Pompano Beach, Florida.
In 1995 Hendricks hired Jeff Stentz to head ABC's acquisitions program.
In 1996 ABC acquired some 15 companies, adding $100 million to its sales.
Roughly seven more acquisitions&mdashding another $150 million--were planned for 1997.
By 1997 ABC was also offering customers new value-added services like free next morning deliveries, on-site product training seminars, customized catalogs, electronic ordering, and usage and trend analysis reports.
TSC also looked to the Internet starting in 1997, purely as a way to provide information to its customers.
In 1997 the company launched a pilot program to address this issue.
1998: Second HSC Direct/Aeroquip Express store opened in Ft.
In 1999 it had merged with Central Tractor Farm & Country of Iowa, making it the largest farm store retailer in the United States, but the debt incurred, as well as a clash in corporate cultures, led to severe repercussions.
1999: Third HSC Direct/Aeroquip Express store opened in Atlanta, Georgia.
The price of TSC stock dipped to the $8 range in late 2000 as investors questioned the wisdom of the company's rapid move into Florida, but when it was clear that the gambit was paying off investors began to drive up the price.
In November 2001 the company was forced into bankruptcy.
2002: Sales top $1 billion.
2003: Created new International business unit to operate under the name of Industrial Global Sales (IGS).
2004: Second store opened in Mableton, Georgia.
2005: Third store opened in Norcross, Georgia.
2006: St Petersburg, Florida store opened in January, Augusta, Georgia store opened in July, Daytona Beach, Florida store opened in September and Savannah, Georgia store opened in December.
2007: 4 additional stores opened: Lakeland, Florida in January, Chattanooga, Tennessee in July, Marietta, Georgia in October and Naples, Florida in December.
2008: Warehouse expansion was in progress.
2009: Warehouse expansion with an additional 20,000 sq. ft. was completed.
2010: Aviation division was sold in August.
2014: Hydraulic Repair & Service opened in Pompano Beach, Florida and the company expanded footprint into North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama.
2015: Columbia, South Carolina and Charlotte and Greensboro, North Carolina stores opened.
2016: Knoxville, TN and Monterrey, Mexico stores opened.
2017: Opened New Store in Greenville, SC and Completed Acquisition of Fabacher, Inc of New Orleans
2018: Opened New Stores in Mobile, Alabama, Miami East, and Miami West
2018: Acquired by Motion Industries, Inc. a division of Genuine Parts Company
