Shasta County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood.

1853 May 14, Shasta Courier, Shasta, California - FROM FRENCH GULCH - A correspondent, "W.G.D." assures us that the French Gulch mines have yielded, for a long time past, equal to those of any portion of Northern California.

1854 June 24, Shasta Courier, Shasta, California - CANON COURSE - A race will be run over this course on the 3rd of July, between "Yreka Bally" owned by McIntosh, and "Ben Franklin" owned by Cooley.

"Thomas Freeman was the first settler to buy here in 1854.

1856 October 6, Sacramento Daily Union - A THROW OFF - The Shasta Courier says the race [Horse Race] at the Canon House, in that county, between Emigrant Lizzie and Missouri Joe, on Saturday, Sept.

"Elias Anderson bought Freeman's 160 acre American Ranch in December 1856, and enlarged the ranch to 370 acres.

1857 April 3, Sacramento Daily Union, ". . .The dry diggings in the vicinity of Buckeye are now paying well.

1861 March 30, Shasta Courier, Shasta, California - STRUCK BY LIGHTNING - On Sabbath last, near the Canon House, a wagon, with freight for S. Seelig, and Hollub & Isaacs of this place [Shasta] belonging to J.H. Gossett, of Red Bluff, was struck by lightening.

In 1861, when life as they had formerly known was almost gone, Indians shot and killed Marie Dersch at her home in Parkville.

1866 December 8, Shasta Courier, Shasta, California - STAGE UPSET - The Red Bluff stage was upset near the Canon House, on Monday morning last, while passing a bad place in the road.

1867 April 13, Shasta Courier, Shasta, California - SOLD OUT - Crocker & Blair have purchased N.C. Farrington's saw mill, on Brandy Creek.

1870 February 5, Shasta Courier, Shasta, California - WILD CATS - A few days ago Joseph Crocker, a boy of about twelve, was out hunting on Brandy Creek, when his dog treed a couple of large wild cats.

On June 1st, 1871, the first stage of the California and Oregon Coast Line Stage Co. passed over this road.

The town was actually a railroad station in 1872, and then lots were sold for private dwellings.

1886, Republican Free Press - An old California miner named Becker, who has mined all over the Pacific Coast, last week struck what he believes to be a rich mine about one and a half miles west of Centerville near Clear Creek.

1889 June 12, San Francisco Bulletin, The Redding Democrat says: A new quartz discovery was made by an old prospector named Brown, about two weeks ago on the old Gage place on the divide between Shasta and Centerville that promises to make a rich mine.

1923 March 25, Searchlight, Redding, California - Miss Myra E. Giles, teacher of the Lone Tree school, was in the county seat Saturday to attend the meeting of the County Board of Education.~

On 1937 June 9, the Post Office was moved one-half mile east.

1938

1938 July 30, United States Post Office at Buckeye re-established with Mrs.
