This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor. Essential Functions * Alters, paints, repairs, or constructs furniture and articles and structures (e.g. doors, tables, chairs, desks, walls, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and usability of items and maintaining a safe and attractive environment. * Assists with maintaining electrical and HVAC & R systems, equipment and fixtures (e.g. install and make routine repairs to electrical wiring, switches, outlets, plugs, fixtures and other electrical parts and accessories; test, maintain and replace filters, fans and belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe and operational working environment. * Attends trainings and safety meetings (e.g. use of pesticides, weed and grass spraying, etc.) for the purpose of developing professional trade and safety skills and learning current updated policies and procedures. * Cleans assigned facilities and grounds (e.g. sinks, fixtures, urinals, toilets, disinfects drinking fountains and restroom facilities, cafeterias, lounges, offices, hallways, kitchens, multipurpose rooms, etc.) for the purpose of preparing site for daily operations and maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary environment. * Maintains various records related to inspections, supply inventories, maintenance and assigned activities for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. * Operates a variety of equipment (e.g. mowers, edgers, weed eaters, vacuums, mops,fork lifts, blowers, various hand and power tools, carpet cleaners, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining building and grounds in a neat, clean safe and sanitary condition. * Performs minor plumbing duties as assigned (e.g. inspect and repair leaks, obstructions and general system failures in faucets, drinking fountains, toilets, urinals, sinks and various other fixtures; adjust sprinkler settings and irrigation systems, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring equipment and components are in proper working order. * Performs grounds maintenance activities in the beautification of grounds and landscaped areas as assigned (e.g. mow, edge, trim and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; hoe and pull weeds; rake leaves; prepare soil; plant, cultivate, prune and fertilize flowers, trees, grass and shrubs; fix broken sprinklers, timers and related items as needed;, etc.) for the purpose of providing an attractive environment. * Performs routine general maintenance and repairs as assigned (e.g. replace light bulbs and ballasts; assisting with repairing, adjusting and replacing electrical, plumbing, HVAC and various other parts, components and fixtures, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and usability of items and/or reporting major maintenance and repairs needs to appropriate staff. * Prepares site for daily operations (e.g. opening gates, picking up refuse, set-up and assemble chairs, tables and other furniture and equipment for special events and after lunch periods, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and hazard free, minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability. * Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, fire hazards, etc.) for the purpose of responding to emergency custodial, building maintenance and grounds maintenance requests as needed. * Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining inventory of key assignments and minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability. Other Functions * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc.; operating a motor vehicle as necessary; and adhering to safety practices. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning; safety practices and procedures; basic grounds maintenance procedures. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking, and 15% standing. Effectively communicate classroom information between the teacher, the deaf student and other hearing students according to the language level of the student and the goals of the student's IEP. This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: providing communication facilitation between students who are deaf or hard of hearing, and others, in the general education classroom and for other school related activities, including extracurricular activities, as designated in the student's IEP; promoting meeting state-approved or state-recognized requirements for certification, licensing and registration or other comparable requirements. This job reports to Assigned Administrator/Supervisor. Essential Functions * Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans to assigned students. * Administers subject specific tests and skill assessments under the guidance of a classroom teacher or resource teacher for the purpose of evaluating students' language ability and subject proficiency. * Assesses classroom, assembly hall, and other room setups for hearing impaired students (e.g. noise level, visibility, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper setup to facilitate hearing impaired students' learning. * Attends Individual Education Program meetings with assigned student(s) when appropriate for the purpose of providing necessary input into the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing/modifying students' objectives through the conversion to American Sign Language (ASL) or other appropriate manual communication to facilitate student learning. * Confers with teachers (e.g. review and assess instructional materials, goals, lesson plans, IEPs, vocabulary, discourse, content, concepts, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives. * Instructs students (individual or small groups) (e.g. reading, spelling, self-esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of student deficiencies and ensuring students success by the conversion of language to ASL or other appropriate manual communication to facilitate student learning. * Interprets verbal communication in meetings and activities with hearing impaired individuals for the purpose of assisting students, teachers and parents in communicating effectively between voice to sign and sign to voice. * Monitors individual students (e.g. classroom, library, playground activities, tests, extra-curricular activities, emergency drills, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning. * Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines. * Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials. * Prepares a variety of documents, reports and written materials for the purpose of communicating information to parents, staff; providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information. * Provides instruction to hearing impaired students, under the supervision of the teacher, in accordance with lesson plans (e.g. reading, spelling, self-esteem, behavioral skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study. * Provides interpretation for group meetings (e.g. ASL, SEE, CASE, MCE, etc.) for the purpose of providing content understanding to hearing impaired participants. * Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. * Reverse-interprets spoken words of hearing impaired student(s) with limited speech for the purpose of facilitating classroom instruction of the hearing impaired student(s). * Signs during various meetings and instructional activities (e.g. in-service, IEP, classrooms, parent-teacher conferences, plays, programs, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information and upgrading classroom skills necessary for the successful educational process for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. * Uses adapted classroom work/homework/assessment instruments under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing voice to sign and sign to voice support and/or reinforcing classroom objectives. Other Functions * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. The position is on an as-needed basis, referred to as a Professional Services Agreement (PSA). The educator leads school groups in both locations. The planetarium averages at least two programs per week during the school year. Typical hours for field trips are 8:30-12:30. The educator also conducts about 5 evening programs per year. WES offers field trips from September-October and April-May. The number of field trips varies but typically requires about 12 hours per week. DEFINITION Under the direction of the Director of Science, the educator is responsible for presenting the programs and handling other day-to-day tasks. Planetarium programs involve presenting to 25-65 people in an auditorium setting. WES involves leading groups of 14-21 students in science and nature activities. All activities focus on educational science topics. QUALIFICATIONS: *Education: Minimum of an AA or equivalent *Experience working with children *Experience with public speaking preferred *Science knowledge preferred DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SCHREDER PLANETARIUM: 1. Present planetarium programs 2. Operate the ScieDome projection system computers, audio, and exhibits 3. Monitor visitor behavior during programs 4. Sell items in the gift shop and report daily earnings 5. Perform other related duties as assigned 6. Communicate program needs to SCOE staff DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHISKEYTOWN ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOOL 1. Lead a field group of students through science activities 2. Manage student behavior 3.
