Shasta Regional has a long- standing tradition of being a cutting-edge healthcare provider, from the moment it opened its doors in 1945, until today and will continue to do so into the future.
Owned by Doctor Tom Wyatt, he purchased adjoining property and in 1963, a larger expansion enabled the hospital to be licensed for 132 beds.
In 1986, after a large expansion of the North tower a new 21 bed orthopedic unit brought the bed capacity to 185.
Nine years later, in 1995 the hospital celebrated its 50th year with a $35 million dollar expansion with the construction of a new Emergency Department and Outpatient Surgery Center.
Prime Healthcare Services acquired Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville, California in January, 2001 in order to save it from closure.
In 2004, Prime Healthcare acquired Chino Valley Medical Center from bankruptcy.
In 2006, Prime Healthcare saved Sherman Oaks Hospital from the same fate.
Prime Healthcare was recognized as a Top 10 Health System in 2009.
Thomson Reuters expanded the award from 10 systems to 15 systems in 2011 so that it could have three categories, large, medium, and small and Prime Healthcare was included among the medium systems in 2011.
In fall of 2015, a 20-bed Geropsychiatric unit, Path to Wellness, will open providing cognitive, emotional and psychological healthcare.
