1968

1968: First residential building of 48 apartment residences completed; former missionaries Emilie and Ralph Torgerson become first residents of Shell Point.

An industry leader established in 1968, Shell Point is a continuing care retirement community that provides independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and a variety of amenities and support services for people 60 and older.

1969

1969: Village center with restaurant, grocery mart, beauty salon, barbershop, activity spaces, meeting rooms and administrative offices is completed.

1970

1970: Medical Center opens.

1973

1973: The Village Church is completed with 1,200 seat auditorium.

1996

1996-97: Shell Point buys 695 acres at a cost of $7.5 million for purpose of expansion.

2008

The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point was named as one of 2008’s most innovative active aging programs by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an association that supports professionals who develop wellness/fitness facilities and services for age 50-plus adults.
