    Corrections Officers are responsible for the control, observation and supervision of inmates to ensure the maintenance of security, operational rules and policies of the Sherburne County Jail. Please note: we currently have a limited number of openings and will build an eligibility list for future openings once we are fully staffed. The following duties are normal for this position. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Both the Corrections Officer I and Corrections Officer II positions require the following: * Valid MN driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. * Must have excellent verbal communication skills, ability to hear normal range of radio and speech, and ability to visually observe persons and conditions. An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for either the Corrections Officer I or Corrections Officer II position: CORRECTIONS OFFICER I: * High school diploma (or equivalent) and two years of full-time work experience in any occupation. * Pay starts at $32.95 hour CORRECTIONS OFFICER II: * One year experience as a Correctional Officer I; OR * Completion of two years of college or vocational technical course work in corrections, law enforcement, sociology, psychology or related social science field; OR * Four years experience in one of the following areas (or an equivalent combination of education and experience): * Corrections, law enforcement or security * Active military duty with an honorable discharge * Social case work in a welfare agency or counseling in other types of organizations * Classroom teaching or instructing * Responsible rehabilitation work, e.g., in an alcoholic rehabilitation program * Supervised planned recreational activities or active participation in community action programs * Management or supervisory work in a business or other organization that included work flow and/or direct supervision of others * Persuasive sales work or commissioned sales work, other than taking and filing orders as in over-the-counter sales * Pay starts at $35.26/ hour Note: Candidate will be hired as a Corrections Officer I or Corrections Officer II based off of interview, hiring process, and prior work experience. CO I can be promoted to a CO II after one year of service. Note: If you are employed as a Correctional Officer with another agency, we may be able to offer a lateral move into a similar level of pay with necessary approval; this is done on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed for any candidate.Work Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in the United States. Any offer of employment will be contingent on successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, psychological examination, and background investigation. Physical Requirements and Work Environment * Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to perform work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. May involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects, materials and people (100 pounds). * Must be able to use fine motor skills to manipulate small items like handcuffs, keys, keyboards, and other equipment. * Work is performed in a correctional facility supervising inmates incarcerated for committing criminal activities ranging from minor to major offenses (up to and inclusive of maximum security inmates). This position encounters physically threatening situations requiring grappling with and/or subduing inmates. * This position includes situations where Corrections Officers may be expected to promptly respond to incidents in other parts of the facility with runs of up to and including three hundred yards or more. * Environmental conditions include exposure to disagreeable odors and unpleasant items (body odor, dirty clothing, human feces), hazardous chemicals, communicable diseases (T.B., hepatitis, AIDS), mentally unstable individuals and individuals under the influence of controlled substances. The Transit Information Rep position also documents feedback from customer interactions to support department and agency-level business decisions. How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: The Plant Operator is an experienced position performing operations, monitoring and maintaining Environmental Services wastewater treatment plants in the seven-county metro area to ensure the highest quality water and air standards possible for the region. Our nine wastewater treatment plants are located in: Cottage Grove, Eagan, Empire Township, Hastings, Rogers, Shakopee, St. Paul, Stillwater, and East Bethel. Operators could be assigned to any of the nine plants at hire and then bid for positions based on seniority. Work Schedule for Plant Operators: Treatment plants operate 24/7 year-round. Plant operators work 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts. Plant location and work shift are determined through a job bid process. Most operators work a 12-hour shift (7 am to 7 pm -OR- 7 pm to 7 am) on one of the following schedules: First week: Monday - Wednesday Second week: Monday - Thursday First week: Friday - Sunday Second week: Thursday - Sunday The following link is a video overview of the history and operations of Environmental Services: MCES Overview What you would do in this job Operations and Equipment: Operate process control equipment (i.e., start/stop and control speed and flow rates on various types of pumps, compressors, generators, blowers, conveyor belts, incinerators, tanks, rotating equipment, instrumentation, land spreading and bio-solids) to ensure our compliance with permits requirements. Monitors and controls plant functions through computer information (i.e., SCADA), computers, automatic controllers, or manual controls to ensure proper process operations are maintained (i.e., feed rates, pressure, temperature, tank levels, sludge blanket levels, voltage, current, and other various parameters). Operate, control, and monitor treatment process equipment (preliminary, primary, secondary, disinfection, incineration, odor control, dewatering, and solids handling processes). Monitor and control plant functions through computer information (i.e., SCADA), computers, automatic controllers, or manual controls to ensure proper process operations are maintained (i.e., feed rates, pressure, temperature, tank levels, sludge blanket levels, voltage, current, and other various parameters). Monitor raw water, process water conditions, and add and adjust chemicals accordingly. Respond to spills, sewage stoppage, and cleanup of overflow by taking appropriate corrective action. Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and instruments to ensure efficient operation and accurate instrument reading. Performs routine adjustments and minor repairs to motors, pumps, and valves: Cleans tanks, weirs, pumps and other process control equipment utilizing hand tools and power tools. Maintain tools, equipment, and materials; inspect and monitor equipment. Troubleshoots operational and equipment problems. Maintain facility by cleaning, sweeping, and hosing down equipment, piping, and valves. Safety: Perform maintenance checks and service on safety equipment and stations, including fire extinguishers, first aid equipment, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, eye wash stations and respirator equipment. Use appropriate safety equipment (respirator equipment, oxygen, toxic/explosive monitoring equipment meters) necessary to complete work in hazardous atmospheres. Apply proper safety precautions, rules and regulations, and practices of a wastewater treatment plant. Must follow standard safety protocol and standards including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and respirators as needed. Respond to emergency on-call situations. Identify safe work practices to properly use safety equipment. Technical: Perform general maintenance and repair operations, with the use of tools, materials, and equipment. Perform troubleshooting functions. Make routine adjustments to motors, pumps, and other equipment. Use computers to track work orders, maintenance activities, tank readings, logbooks, and process summaries. Maintains personnel protection system for fire, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrocarbon alarm systems. Engineers, designs, and lays out electrical/electronic control circuits. How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: We are recruiting for a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Communication Technician to perform preventative maintenance on Light Rail/ SCADA Communication systems and subsystems including but not limited to, variable message signs, emergency telephones, public address systems and closed-circuit digital television cameras. The SCADA/Communications department of Metro Transit is responsible for maintaining all voice, audio and digital interfaces and recording devices. Also maintained are the variable message signs, programmable logic controllers, emergency telephones, public address systems, closed circuit televisions camera both fixed and pan tilt. The successful candidate for this position must be able to work independently and be a self-starter. Eighty-eight percent (88%) of the work is performed in a field service type setting in all types of weather (i.e., on station platforms or in a Signal/Communications houses). Hourly Pay Range: For candidates newly hired into the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) contract, starting wage is set by the ATU contract.
