In addition to the function and duties of a CNA, the CNA is able to perform additional procedures under the direction of a registered professional nurse/license nurse (RN/LPN) who follows the principles of delegation. The CNA must successfully complete the Sheridan Memorial Hospital CNA II Training and Competency Evaluation Course. The CNA assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to patients and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse or other Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. The CNA implements directions from the nursing staff and physicians assisting with direct and indirect patient care. The CNA meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff, and medical staff. Performs admission duties and ensures patient information is accurately obtained and updated in the hospital#s computer system; prepares and compiles records in the department. # ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS # Professional Practice Adheres to organizational policies and procedures. Adheres to professional guidelines for practice such as defined by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice. Collaborates with other departments in a professional manner as needed to provide patient-centered care. Demonstrates effective communication, conflict resolution, team building, and leadership skills. Compliance with Sheridan Memorial Hospital#s Kindness First Service Standards. The CNA II can perform the following procedures: Ability to apply oxygen therapy and be delegated by RN to adjust flow rate Sterile technique Wound Care for stable wounds over 96 hours old Oropharyngeal suctioning Urinary catheter care, removal and specimen collection Gastrostomy and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy feeding (PEG) tubes Elimination procedures, ostomy care Capillary blood glucose testing Tracheostomy care Assisting with peripheral IV normal saline fluids delegated by RN Removal of peripheral IV delegated by RN # # Quality Assists with patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Completes documentation that meets current standards and policies. Performs treatments and provide services within scope of practice. Communicates appropriately and clearly with all health care team members. Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient within scope of practice. Assists nursing staff with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills within training and scope of practice. Reports all events such as near misses, adverse events, patient/family complaints, and any situation that affects the safe delivery of patient-centered care in a timely manner. # Service Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Maintains good working relationships both within the department and with other departments. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with social service/discharge planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations. # # # Department Specific # This position is responsible for both Telemetry Tech and CNA job duties (90/10) as assigned. Verify orders in Cerner. Scan documents into appropriate files. Assist nurse team leads and managers with policy and procedure. Perform electrocardiograms in multi-settings including proper electrode placement. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart in relation to waves, complexes, time, and voltage as shown through the conduction system and strip interpretation. Ability to measure complexes on the telemetry strip. Obtain a 12-lead EKG per physician order. # # POSITION QUALIFICATIONS # Education, #Experience # License # High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), preferred. Current unrestricted Wyoming Certified Nurse Assistant,#required. CNA II license required within 1 year of hire. # Intro to Cardiac Rhythm Analysis certification completed within the orientation period. BLS, required. # Central Registry, required.
