1806

Pratt joined the Madison County Medical Society in 1806 in which he held the office of secretary.

1808

In 1808, James D. Coolidge (or Cooledge) began cultivating hops in Bouckville with roots gathered from neighbors’ gardens.

1814

During the year 1814 he became a tavern keeper.

1834

Construction started on the 97 mile long canal in 1834.

1839

Ezra Cloyes was born in the year 1776 and died in 1839.

1840

Jeremiah Whipple was born in the year 1763 and died on September 22, 1840.

Ezekial Carpenter during the year 1840 he was the commissioner of loans.

Edwin Barker was a member of the Democratic committee of 1840.

1859

By 1859, New York State produced 80% of all hops grown in the United States.

1868

On January 21, 1868, County voters cast 35 ballots in the first election.

Samuel Mott founded a company in 1868 which has become synonymous with quality in the apple products line.

1869

In November of 1869 a vigilante committee of 12 people went to a foreclosed farm and ordered the constable to bring back goods he had sold from the disputed property.

MOTTS APPLE CIDER VINEGAR PLANT -- 1869 -- Samuel Mott or “S.R.” Mott established a cider mill to ship apple cider vinegar on the Chenango Canal.

1871

By 1871, S.R. produced 9,000 barrels of vinegar a year.

1877

The convictions of five men for bootlegging liquor to Indians brought the jail population to 13 inmates. It was then moved to the first courthouse in 1877.

1878

In 1878, the Town of Madison was the second largest hop producer in Madison County.

A chicken coop was built here after the canal closed in 1878 (a goat can be seen, if you look closely). The towpath is on the right.”

1893

1894

The Oneida Police Department was formed before 1894, when Oneida was a village.

1925

20, Bouckville, it lasted until 1925 when it caved in with a car still on it.

1934

In 1934, to comply with eight hour work-day legislation, the number of officers increased to fourteen.

1946

In 1946 eighteen officers patrolled the City.

1976

In 1976 the current Madison County Courthouse was built.

Today, this lakefront property belongs to the Town of Madison (purchased in 1984) and is enjoyed by the town residents for swimming, boating, fishing and large gatherings reserved in the pavilions.

He attended Oneida City Schools graduating in 1987.

1991

Sheriff Hood began his career in law enforcement with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer and graduated from the Mohawk Valley Police Academy in 1991.

1992

Kevin Turner is a veteran law enforcement officer who started his career with the Madison County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy in 1992.

The Thrasher Award was created in 1992 to honor and recognize outstanding individuals for superior service, accomplishments, or leadership in the fight to make our society safer from the threat posed by violent criminal gangs.

1995

In 1996 the Sheriff’s Office moved into a new 225,000+ square foot facility.

1999

In 1999 the Sheriff’s Office moved forward into the computerized world, as an internet web-site was established (www.madisoncountysheriff.com). The site has received awards in the Law Enforcement category for its setup and contents.

2004

In 2004 Kevin was recognized during the National Gang Crime Research Center by receiving the Frederick Milton Thrasher Award and serving as the keynote speaker for the national conference.

2018

Sheriff Todd Hood began his service as Sheriff for Madison County in 2018.

2019

The Bouckville Feed Mill closed in late 2019.
