The Childcare Worker is responsible for the supervision and management of all assigned children. The Childcare Worker interacts directly with the children and models appropriate adult-child interactions for the parents. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Group and Assistant Teachers in maintaining a positive, developmentally appropriate, safe and healthy learning environment. Assist in implementing weekly lesson plans developed by the Group and Assistant Teachers. Actively participate in individual and group child activities. Assist in the daily set up, break down and cleaning of the classroom. Assist in serving all daily snacks and meals for assigned children with the support of Group and Assistant Teachers. Provide day shift classroom coverage during staff absences, vacancies or as needed. Provide childcare to children who are not actively engaged in the licensed daycare and/or when parents are unavailable to provide supervision. Provide support as needed to the Women/Children component of Odyssey House under the supervision of Education Director Maintain proper inventory and functioning of all classroom equipment, materials and children supplies with the support of Group and Assistant Teachers. Participate in all classroom trips and outings. Attend all required in-service training seminars, staff meetings and on and off-site case conferences. Participate in quality improvement activities and staff development. Follow and implement licensing requirements per DOHMH and Odyssey House policies. Other relevant duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience working with children required. Associate's degree and one (1) year of experience working with children preferred. Experience working, supporting and teaching children is recommended. CPR/First Aid Certification recommended (we could require it, but we also provide the class,so I say recommend and once hired have them trained within 3 months) NYS Central Registry Check and fingerprint clearance required upon hire. Knowledge of NYC Department of Health regulations and codes recommended. Proficiency with computer operations (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs) required. Available 24/7 to clear snow and ice from buildings and grounds by shoveling and using a gas-powered snow blower to ensure tenant safety. Perform janitorial tasks in and around building grounds and common areas. Perform plumbing tasks such as unclogging tubs, sinks, and toilets. Operate power tools used for cutting trees and lawns. Perform routine maintenance and repairs to buildings, furniture, and fixtures. Assist in moving/cleaning heavy objects such as stoves, refrigerators, etc. Assist with periodic pest control inspections/unit treatments by outside vendors. Perform unit inspections as needed. Perform other related duties of the class as required. Qualifications 1 year of experience demonstrating maintenance work Must possess a valid New Jersey State Driver's License Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally Must be able to handle high-volume, fast-paced work with tremendous attention to detail amid multi-tasking, being organized, and meeting multiple deadlines. Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Ability to knowledgeably and safely use any of a wide variety of hand tools, including mops, vacuums, shovels, rakes, pliers, screwdrivers, levels, awls, and tape measures; Ability to use any of a wide variety of power tools and equipment, including riding and standing lawnmowers and commercial-grade floor care equipment; Basic knowledge of landscaping techniques and methods (e.g., how to prune trees and shrubs, how and when to use chemicals for weed abatement); Ability to identify simple maintenance problems, locate their cause, and solve the problems that are identified; Knowledge of safe work practices, including appropriate personal protective equipment, safe use of hazardous materials and chemicals, fall protection standards, confined space standards, and all related OSHA safety standards. The ability to maintain constant vigilance to achieve and preserve a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and residents; Ability to compute basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and to compute basic geometry formulas (e.g., determine square footage) required; Able to respond in a positive and timely way to maintenance requests, including emergencies; Able to coordinate work with outside contractors as needed; Available to work On-Call shifts on the On-Call program; Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week Able to communicate effectively both verbally, and in writing using correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; Capable of managing competing demands and meeting productivity standards while handling frequent change, delays, and unexpected events; Possess skills to organize and work independently in an environment of frequent interruptions; Ability to engage a wide variety of people with a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and good humor, including culturally, socially, and economically diverse populations, seniors, persons with disabilities, contractors, and professional colleagues; Show a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all assignments as directed; Demonstrate an ardent commitment to client service.
