Skilled Laborer Dept/Div: Public Works FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining and replacing pavement, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Public Works Crew Supervisor.

Essential Functions
Installs concrete sidewalks, driveway approaches, and street slabs; tears out, forms and pours concrete.
Assists with leaf removal; drives truck with leaf vacuum, rake or works the leaf vacuum.
Installs asphalt for cut outs, paving and other miscellaneous projects, makes pot hole repairs and saw cuts; operates
bobcat, shovels asphalt and run the roller and compactor.
Assists with street painting/street signs laying out stencils, grinding off old paint, and running sprayer; street signs
include using federal guidelines for hanging and placing all new signs.
Assists with 24 hour on call for emergency snow removal, pre-treating roads with brine and also making of the brine.
Assists with crack sealing used for fixing roads and using the crack sealer to seal splits and patches in the road.
Assists with street sweeping for general sweeping city wide, and also for storm damage.
Assists with building maintenance and equipment maintenance working and maintaining all city owned properties,
and maintaining all equipment and tools used on jobs and projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy equipment; general knowledge of the
traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved
and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of various maintenance equipment; general knowledge and
ability to identify and handle infectious and hazardous waste properly; skill and care in the operation of several types of
heavy equipment; ability to operate vehicles and equipment fitted with automatic transmission; ability to understand
and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to
equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required and minimal experience in concrete and asphalt construction and maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

As a Laborer your main responsibility will be decommissioning vehicles by removing fluids, batteries, and other components prior to sending them to the crusher or shredder. You will also be responsible for the unloading, processing, and disassembly of various types of scrap metal; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labor duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner.
This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Working hours are from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, with Saturday hours as needed.

Responsibilities of a Laborer
Prepare vehicles for crushing/shredding by draining and capturing all fluids; and removing the battery, catalytic converter and other identified vehicle parts.
Operate various hand tools and fixed equipment, air compressors, vehicle racks, CFC recovery equipment, etc.
Recaptures refrigerant's on received appliances, air conditioners, and vehicles.
Basic sorting of scrap, as well as metal and debris in preparation for processing.
Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
Perform daily inspections on equipment reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
Provide backup or help throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
Follow all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.
Qualifications of a Laborer
High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
1-year previous auto decommissioning/processing experience preferred.
Front end loader or telescoping boom forklift experience preferred.
Basic understanding of HVAC systems preferred.
Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
