Job DescriptionThe Shipping/Receiving Clerk performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods of the establishment in which employed and receiving incoming shipments. General Duties:
Verify outgoing orders by comparing items and quantities prepared for shipment against shipping documents such as manifests or bills of lading to ensure accuracy.
Ensure proper packaging and labeling of all outgoing shipments, including correct shipping information and documentation to support smooth transport.
Load shipments into transport vehicles safely and according to established procedures to maintain workflow efficiency.
Prepare and maintain shipping records, including manifests, bills of lading, and other required documentation to support traceability.
Verify incoming shipments by comparing received items and quantities against invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records to confirm correctness.
Inspect incoming goods for damage and report discrepancies or issues to maintain inventory integrity.
Identify and route received goods to the appropriate departments within the facility to support internal distribution.
Maintain accurate receiving records, documenting all goods received to ensure proper inventory tracking.
Follow established guidelines for routine daily tasks and seek supervisory guidance for non‑routine or unusual issues to ensure compliance.
Coordinate and direct other workers involved in shipping and receiving activities when required to support team operations.
Requirements:
High School Diploma and US Citizen
Must have and Active DoD Clearance
Experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations to demonstrate familiarity with logistics workflows.
Ability to follow established procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Strong attention to detail for verifying orders, inspecting goods, and maintaining accurate records to prevent errors.
Basic clerical skills, including recordkeeping and documentation to manage shipping/receiving paperwork.
Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials as part of physical shipping/receiving tasks to meet job demands.
Comfort using shipping systems, scanners, or basic computer tools to support documentation and tracking.
Strong communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, drivers, and internal departments to maintain smooth operations.
Ability to work independently on routine tasks and seek guidance when handling non‑routine issues to ensure proper problem‑solving.

Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows safety regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum of one year in a shipping and receiving environment preferably within the maritime industry.
Ability to operate a pallet jack or forklift. (Training may be provided by Company)
Attention to detail and ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Must be familiar with the process of using a PC to record inventory, transfers, and shipments.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required Qualifications

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
