    Job Title: Shipping / Receiving Dunnage Specialist Reports to: Shipping/Receiving Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Schedule: Monday through Friday with OT as needed 1st Shift- 7a-3p 2nd Shift- 3p-11p Traits • Organized • Self-motivated • Team oriented • Detailed oriented • Must be computer literate Responsibilities • Handling and processing dunnage materials: This involves moving, stacking, organizing, and preparing dunnage for production, shipping, and recycling purposes. • Operating material handling equipment: This typically includes forklifts (both sit-down and stand-up), pallet jacks, and potentially other equipment used in warehouses and manufacturing environments. • Ensuring proper use and disposal of dunnage: This involves adhering to company standards and environmental regulations, including sorting materials for recycling and minimizing waste. • Maintaining organized workspaces: Keeping work areas clean and orderly is important for safety and efficiency. • Supporting warehouse and logistics operations: This may include assisting with receiving inventory management, packaging, and loading/unloading trucks. • Collaboration and communication: Dunnage specialists may interact with production teams, drivers, and other warehouse personnel to ensure smooth operations. Essential skills and qualifications • High school diploma or GED: Most dunnage specialist positions require this as a minimum educational requirement. • Warehouse or shipping experience (preferred): Prior experience in a warehouse setting, particularly in shipping or logistics, is often preferred by employers. • Basic math and reading skills: These are essential for tasks like counting inventory, reading instructions, and maintaining records. • Attention to detail: Accurate handling and processing of dunnage requires a keen eye for detail. • Physical stamina: The role typically involves standing for extended periods and may require lifting and moving materials, potentially up to 50 pounds. Physical Requirements • Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting (35lbs continual), pushing, pulling and moving items in a repetitive motion • Responding to public address system announcements • Walking and standing climbing stairs Environmental Job Requirements • Due to forklifts and other heavy equipment traveling through the shop, temporary cracks may appear in the floor, causing an uneven walking surface • The shop environment can be dusty and noisy • Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes • Floors around work area may become slippery during wet weather conditions, or liquids such as coolants and oils from the machinery • May have to handle parts with sharp edges • Passing forklifts emit gas fumes • Tools, supplies, and related materials may contain hazardous materials • May have to occasionally work outdoors where temperatures and climate can fluctuate Personal Protection Equipment • The wearing of Safety Glasses when working on the shop floor. Management has the right to add or change these duties of the position at any time. Per Michigan Proposition 1, passed into law in 2019, we no longer drug test for THC. It is however not permitted on company property. All other illegal substances will be tested for during onboarding.
