Responsibilities:

As part of the most elite helicopter emergency response team in the world, youll be tasked with saving the lives of people caught in the waves. Living by the motto, So others may live, rescue swimmers put their skills to the test for others each time they leap into the sea.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Aviation Rescue Swimmers are tasked with entering treacherous conditions to assist with rescue missions, humanitarian assistance and operational support. One day you may be evacuating families on the other side of the globe amidst a catastrophic storm and the next day rescuing the crew of a ship off the Pacific coast or saving a mountain climber hanging from an inaccessible cliff.
Depending on your role, duties may include:
Coordinating with pilots as an Aircrewman aboard helicopters.
Saving the crew of downed aircraft, people aboard stranded or capsized vessels at sea, or hikers and mountain climbers in danger.
Rescuing civilians during natural disasters in collaboration with other forces such as the Coast Guard.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
As an AWR, you will operate in almost every type of extreme environment and may be assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) sea or shore duty in any part of the world. You could be assigned to squadrons at Naval Air Stations and may deploy aboard aircraft carriers, surface combat ships, and support ships.
TRAINING AND ADVANCEMENT
Aviation Rescue Swimmers must be prepared to operate in any challenging environment. It's why two years of training in advanced swimming and lifesaving techniques, helicopter mission equipment and helicopter weapons systems are required before you report to your first squadron. Throughout training, candidates are continually tested mentally and physically as they advance to more rigorous and challenging scenarios.
Upon completion of initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (known as Boot Camp), those pursuing an Aircrewman role undergo the following training pipeline:
Aircrew Candidate School(4 weeks) in Pensacola, FL, to learn water and land survival skills and flight safety
Rescue Swimmer School(5 weeks) in Pensacola, FL, to learn search and rescue techniques
Class A Technical School(5 weeks for AWS/12 weeks for AWR) in Pensacola, FL, to study basic skills in Naval Aviation
SERE School(2 weeks) in North Island, CA, or Portsmouth, NH, to train in Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) techniques
Fleet Replacement Squadrons(6 months for AWS/10 months for AWR) for on-site aircraft systems training in North Island, CA , Jacksonville, FL or Norfolk, VA.
After graduation, an AIRR may be assigned to a helicopter command at sea or on shore duty in various locations throughout the U.S., including San Diego, CA; Norfolk, VA; Jacksonville, FL; China Lake, CA; Whidbey Island, WA; Key West, FL.; and many others.

The Mobile Crisis Responder works as a member of a community based mobile crisis response team providing mental health assessment to a wide variety of individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis in a variety of settings, as well as ensuring follow up care. DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:
The Education Department supports CASA's multi-generation approach to education through engaging youth and their families in the attainment of educational opportunities for all. Across its footprint, CASA partners with, initiates, and fosters strong relationships between public school systems and immigrant families. Additionally, the Education Department oversees CASA's efforts to improve educational outcomes for immigrant students and their families through coordinated interdepartmental efforts within the organization. The department also supports CASA's expanding education policy work in strategic partnership with CASA's Department of Politics & Communications.
The Education Department's Life Skills ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program uses the teaching methodology of Popular Education to address the educational needs of its adult learners and provide them with otherwise unavailable educational opportunities. Lessons are focused upon concrete and practical everyday experiences. Students, as adults, come to class with experiences that they are encouraged to share and peer teach while performing tasks. Class materials are geared towards student's life experiences and promote both civic engagement and community empowerment. The classes also provide students with the linguistic skills and systems understanding needed to make positive and long-lasting social change within their community in coordination with CASA's organizing and advocacy efforts in the fight for immigration reform, workers' rights, universal equality, and racial equity.
POSITION SUMMARY:
CASA is seeking passionate ESOL Teachers to facilitate evening English classes for adult learners using a Popular Education approach rooted in social justice, civic engagement, and real-world communication. In this role, you will create and lead interactive lessons that build language skills while empowering immigrant and working-class communities.
This opportunity is part-time and temporary, operating under an independent contractor agreement. Teachers will be paid a total of $3,552.00 for the winter/spring 2026 contract period. Independent contractors must complete a 1099 form and are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes. This role does not include CASA-sponsored benefits. All candidates must provide proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination upon acceptance of a contract offer.
Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 7:00-9:00 PM at CASA's Roosevelt Welcome Center (907 Roosevelt Avenue, York, PA 17404), with occasional Friday make-up classes. Teachers must commit to teaching all scheduled evenings and attending mandatory orientation and trainings. Mandatory orientation will be held virtually via Zoom on 1/20/26, 1/21/26, 1/22/26, and 1/28/26 from 6:00-8:00 PM and in-person at CASA's Roosevelt Welcome Center on 1/29/26 from 6:00-9:00 PM.
The contract covers one eight-week sessions:

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create engaging and practical lesson plans for working adults that include materials, culture, and technology relevant to their authentic life experiences.
Develop class activities that deepen learners' understanding of social justice and build power and leadership from within CASA's immigrant and working class members.
Teach functional English grammar and conversation skills to adult learners of diverse professional and educational backgrounds. Teaching is done in the target language and focuses on giving the learner opportunity/purpose for communicating.
Evaluate student needs and progress by monitoring student work, providing opportunities for conversation. Record and update class attendance and student data on a daily basis.
Proctor and grade CASA's life skills ESOL pre-test at the start of the session and four life skills ESOL post-tests over the course of the session.
Administer periodic quizzes and conduct information assessments throughout the session to ensure that lessons address relevant student needs and that the learners have acquired the target language skill.
Keep students informed of CASA services and events.
Maintain a minimum average attendance rate of 70% and minimum retention rate of 75%.
Maintain constant communication with program staff and other instructors and promptly respond to emails from CASA staff.
Participate in periodic teachers' meetings and trainings as scheduled and incorporate lessons learned into future ESOL lessons.
Other duties related to the position as assigned by the supervisor.
