Job Overview
Shriners Children's Ohio has an exciting opportunity for a MedicalAssistant to join our Outpatient Clinic team!
In this role, you'll support our medical and nursing staff in providing compassionate, family-centered care to infants, toddlers, preschoolers, adolescents, and young adults. You'll play a key part in the patient intake process - collecting vital information such as medical history, height and weight, vital signs, allergies, medications, and previous procedures - helping our team deliver the best possible care to every child.

Hours: This Monday - Friday position will work 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
* The MedicalAssistantassists in rooming patients, taking vital signs, measurements, preparation of exam rooms, stocking supplies, assisting the physician, interacting with other departments and documentation in the electronic medical record.
* Assists providers, nursing and other health care professionals with procedures and the intake and depart processes.
* Accurately documents information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
* Responsible for prepping clinic to be prepared for that day's clinic to include monitoring supplies and equipment and ordering supplies.
* Utilizes good clinical judgement to identify problems and interventions with patients and families and referral to RN as needed.
This is not an all-inclusive list of this job's responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
* High School Diploma / GED
* Basic Life Support (BLS)
* Two years' pediatric care experience
Preferred:

1. Prepare, gross (exam with the naked eye), and dissect surgical and autopsy specimens.
2. Assist with forensic, medicolegal, and hospital autopsies.
3. Summarize patient medical records and prepare autopsy reports.
4. Prepare tissue for pathological examination and testing, including photography of specimens.
5. Complete surgical pathology protocol reports and data, file reports, photographic and microscopic slides, specimen coding and billing code entry.
6. Perform proper maintenance of equipment, obtain provision of adequate supplies, clean the surgical pathology suite.
7. Instruct pathology residents/fellows, pathologists' assistant students, and other pathology lab personnel.
8. Participate in research.
9. Procure samples for biospecimen banking.
Physical Requirements:
1. Work requires standing or walking for up to half of the day and lifting or pushing of weights up to 200 pounds.
2. Frequent exposure to human waste, and noxious gases and odors.
3. Exposure to infectious materials and dangerous bacterial and viral agents. Exposure to fumes which may cause minor illnesses.
4. Contact with physicians, house staff, funeral homes, and other hospitals.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties
Maintain patient medical records, updating patient medical history and current status, including vital signs, medical treatments, and medication provided. Reviews and updates patient immunization records.
Prepare for patient visits. Review the patient file, including lab requests, referrals, and correspondence. Verify and ensure necessary reports are present. Provide updates to the Provider team as needed.
Collaborate with Providers to ensure efficiency of schedules and continuity of care. Discusses patients scheduled for the day, including pre-visit prep.
Prepare and maintain patient exam rooms, ensuring that appropriate supplies are in the room and that necessary equipment is present and sterilized.
Prepare patients for examinations, explaining medical treatment procedures as needed.
Provide limited education and coaching for patients within scope. This includes discharge information and responding to follow-up questions. Instruct patients about medication and possible allergic reactions.
Respond to patients' questions and concerns in person and via email. If the question is outside the scope, direct inquiries to the appropriate person.
Assist physicians during examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
Anticipate Providers' needs and manage Providers' requests.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens. Complete screenings. Collect and review patient data per protocol. Follow up on test results as directed by healthcare Providers. Document specimens collected and results in electronic medical records (EMR).
Prepare and administer medication as directed by a physician.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Perform clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.

What You'll Do:
As a Certified MedicalAssistant working with our Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC), you'll be the vital link between the patients and our (BHC), helping to ensure seamless, compassionate care. You'll:
Be the bridge between patients and behavioral health services
Coordinate warm handoffs and assist with rooming patients
Manage BHC schedules, messages, and follow-ups
Administer and track behavioral health screeners (PHQ-9, GAD-7, etc.)
Support telehealth visits and outreach to high-risk patients
Interpret for BHCs or coordinate interpreter services
Collaborate with a compassionate, mission-driven team
Qualifications:
Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency approved by the US Department of Education is required.
Completion of one of the following:
Graduation from a medicalassisting program (may be a one-year certificate/diploma program or a two-year Associate Degree program) that is accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). This program must be comprised of at least 720 hours of medicalassistant training, including at least 160 hours in a clinical externship;
Graduation from an apprentice program that is approved by the state;
Complete at least 720 hours of MedicalAssistant college education; OR
Earn an equivalent amount of military training that is related to medicalassisting.
Currently a certified MA, or eligible to take the certification
One year's experience as a Certified MedicalAssistant (CMA). One year's experience in a behavioral health setting preferred.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Certifications must be maintained and remain current
Current documentation for one of the following credentials offered through a national accrediting organization is required within 90 days of hire:

Prepare and maintain exam rooms, explain procedures to patients, provide education and coaching, respond to patient questions and concerns, and assist physicians during exams and procedures
Collect and prepare lab specimens, administer medication, and perform other assigned clinical responsibilities
Qualifications:
Minimum high school diploma or GED
Completion of an accredited medicalassisting program (one-year certificate/diploma or two-year Associate Degree) from CAAHEP or ABHES, with a minimum of 720 training hours, including at least 160-hour clinical externship
One year's experience as a CMA is preferred
CPR certification within 90 days of hire
Must have MedicalAssistant Certification or MedicalAssistant interim certification from the WA State Department of Health
Medical knowledge for understanding theories, reasons, and technical aspects of medicine
Strong people skills to handle diverse personalities, backgrounds, and situations
Excellent multitasking ability to manage varied workloads
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Epic, and EMR
