Shutts & Bowen company history timeline

1911

In 1911, William Pruden Smith joined the firm, and the firm was called Shutts, Atkinson & Smith.

1912

Atkinson left the firm to become a Circuit Judge and Crate D. Bowen joined the firm in 1912, the firm was known as Shutts, Smith & Bowen.

1919

The firm became Shutts & Bowen, after name partner Crate Bowen, in 1919 after another partner was elected mayor.

1920

He became chairman of the Salvation Army’s local advisory board in 1920 and long remained active in that organization.

1983

Six months ago, Shutts moved from traditional quarters in the Miami Center, the firm’s headquarters since 1983, into its new space across Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami’s Southeast Financial Center.

2007

Since its inception in 2007, HistoryMiami’s 11th Judicial Historical Society has presented this award to some of South Florida’s most influential lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals for their extraordinary accomplishments.
