Sierra ITS company history timeline

1994

It would be later bought in 1994 by AT&T and renamed the ImagiNation Network and it would become instrumental in developing the first MMORPG titles.

In 1994 Roberta Williams estimated that women made up 15 percent (growing two percent yearly) of Sierra On-Line's customers.

1995

European sales were worth $15.7 million in 1995 and American sales hit $60.7 million.

Sierra breezed into the kitchen with its 1995 purchase of Arion Software's MasterCook series.

Home productivity, however, was the focus of Sierra's 1995 acquisitions.

1996

In 1996, CUC International would buy Sierra at approximately $1.5 billion.

Sierra later agreed to produce a version of its Red Baron game, to be released in 1996, for Nintendo's cartridge-based video game system.

Booth Creek Ski Holdings' purchase of the resort in 1996 continued to fuel additional industry firsts for Sierra.

1996: Fibreboard Corporation sells Sierra-at-Tahoe to Booth Creek Ski Holdings, Inc.

1997

In 1997, CUC would merge with HFS Incorporated into the Cendant Corporation.

1999

Sierra was forced to become more of a game publisher than a developer, but it was still able to release Homeworld by Relic Entertainment in September 1999, which garnered critical acclaim.

2000

In June 2000, Havas was merged with other companies into Vivendi Universal, which unfortunately led to more restructuring and layoffs.

2001

2001: The five backcountry gates open up Huckleberry Canyon to advanced skiers and riders looking for resort-accessed raw adventure.

2002

In 2002, Sierra On-Line changed its name to Sierra Entertainment Inc. and along with High Voltage Software, released Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude without Al Lowe’s involvement.

2004

2004: Jamie Anderson, Sierra Elite Team member, becomes the youngest competitor ever at the Winter X Games.

2006

2006: Travis Cabral wins the United States World Cup Moguls Championship and Hannah Teter wins the Olympic Gold in Women's Halfpipe.

2007

2007: Jamie and Joanie Anderson, also a Sierra Elite Team member, take double gold at the Winter X Games.

2007: 360° Smokehouse BBQ opens to the public in Grandview Lodge offering skiers and riders the best bbq lunch in the Sierra Mountains.

2008

2008: Jamie Anderson wins the gold medal in the Winter X Games slopestyle event and wins the Ticket To Ride World Tour, making her the top female snowboarder in the world.

2009

2009: Jamie Anderson is named Top Female Rider of the Year by both TransWorld SNOWboarding and Snowboarder Magazine.

2010

Hannah Teter wins Silver at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver Canada.

2010: Sierra is ranked by TransWorld Snowboarding in the Top 10 for Overall Resort, Best Pipes and Best Parks.

2011

In 2011, TWS Poll ranked Sierra-at-Tahoe as #7 Best Overall Resort, #10 Best Parks, #7 Best Vibe and #4 Best Value.

2013

2013: Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce presents Sierra-at-Tahoe with a Large Green Business Blue Ribbon Award for many environmentally friendly initiatives and operations.

2014

On August 7, 2014, Sierra’s website (which redirected to Activision’s website), was updated with a new logo and a message that said more was going to be revealed in Gamescon 2014.

2022

Sierra prides itself on continuing to offer Tahoe’s best deal on a 2022/23 season pass.
