A senior position within the R&D function as part of the Innovation Services and Building Sciences Lab (ISBSL) based at USG's Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville, IL. The ISBSL is responsible for maintenance and continuous improvement of existing USG systems and to develop new systems that will address unmet customer needs and drive profitable growth for USG.
We are seeking an engineer or architect, with 5-7+ years of relevant experience, to develop new systems and to support existing systems. The candidate will take the lead in design, development, and evaluation of new exterior and interior walls, floor, roof systems, and resilient construction to drive profitable growth. In addition, the successful candidate will also support maintenance and improvement of existing systems.
In the new systems area, responsibilities will include addressing unmet customer needs, liaising with internal and external partners to develop prototypes, interfacing with business units to evaluate product market fit, and assisting the business units in profitable growth of the developed system. Responsibilities in support of existing systems will include maintenance of certifications and continuous improvement of performance based on market needs.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture (Advanced Degree is a plus)
* 5-7 years of experience with strong analytical skills
* Knowledge of North American construction practices and experience with determining constructability of building systems
* Deep knowledge of building science and engineering consulting experience preferred
* Experience designing and undertaking experimental and computational research for building assemblies
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including research report writing.
* Good working knowledge of the Building Code and acceptance process (e.g., ASTM, Factory Mutual, IBC, IFC, NFPA)
* Conduct activities in a safe manner, observing all safety and environmental regulations.
* Occasional (up to 20%) travel might be needed.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
