Under the direction of the Interpreter Services Manager, the language access specialist functions as a member of the health care team alongside other health care professionals and helps patients navigate and understand the health care system and connect with internal and external resources. Specialists in this position will also provide counsel to and consult with other stakeholders in healthcare.

Provides accurate translation of medical documents, letters, educational materials, and other translation projects as assigned by the department.
Consulting and Education Services
* Works with medical staff to promote alternative communication approaches for more effective medical treatment of non-English speaking patients. Consults and educates department management on best practices of working and communicating with LEP employees. Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to patients, staff, management and providers in contributing to successful outcomes. Educates staff and faculty on topics of cultural awareness, LEP populations, and working with interpreters.
Patient Services
* Respectfully aids patients in finding internal and external resources when deemed appropriate. PURPOSE

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary functions of an employee in this class is to communicate effectively and to interpret accurately from spoken English to sign language (ASL, PSE, or MCE, whichever appropriate) and from sign language to spoken English. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Interprets for students utilizing their preferred mode of communication during the school day in academic and non-academic settings with staff, peers and other students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Assists teachers in modifying and adapting materials and presentations used in the classroom;
May assist the student with tutoring or other supplemental instruction under the direction of the certified teacher;
Assists in implementing a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP);
Performs interpreting duties in the classroom, tutoring, supplemental or special instruction, conference, and related educational situations, as directed;
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices.
May be required to conduct in-service or training classes to instruct staff in ASL;
Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent

Two (2) to three (3) years ASL or related interpreting experience is preferred;

Essential Functions:

Patient Services

Documentation

Professional Contribution

The Spanish Analytic Linguist will provide operational support to support linguist and translator duties as assigned by the PMO. Essential Job Duties
+ Monitor live communication and listen to or read foreign language communications lawfully intercepted, and perform immediate verbal summaries, then subsequent written or typed summaries into the English language.
+ Transcribe audio/video and written communications to and from source language to English as required.
+ Interpret consecutively or simultaneously to and from source language to English as required.
+ Validate by reviewing other's original translation, transcription, or the quality control review of the specified original work in order to attest to the accuracy of the final work.
+ Summarize by providing concise and accurate synopsis of oral or written communications.
