Maintain confidentiality of all private conversations between school staff and students concerning personal problems or grades. Provides information and orientation to deaf/hard of hearing students in emergency situations. Report to appropriate personnel any information that could be detrimental to the hearing-impaired student, other students, or to school. Understand role in performing behavior management methods in classroom. Attend IEP (Individual Education Plan) meetings as either an interpreter or as a participant of the team, but not as both. Adapt, accommodate, modify and supplement curriculum as specified by the IEP team and directed by the special education case manager. Encourage independence in student and avoid development of inappropriate dependence within the student/interpreter relationship. Works collaboratively with the student's educational team and/or other sign language interpreters. Participate in activities, in-services and skill building workshops to improve knowledge in interpreting, transliterating the educational process and issues relating to deaf culture.
