TESTING INFORMATION
The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description.
Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience and the supplemental questionnaire. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination and qualification appraisal interview.
Upon qualifying, applicants will be notified by email with further instructions. Applicants must pass the application screening to advance to the performance skills test and the qualification appraisal interview. Initial screening to be April 8th, 2024.
Step 2: Performance Examination (weighted 50%) to be determined. Applicants will work through receptive and expressive skill exercises which simulate the tasks that an Education Sign Language Interpreter is expected to perform.
Applicants must pass the performance skills examination to move forward to the next step, (qualifications appraisal interview).
Step 3: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 50%) to be determined.
All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
New Hires - Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position)
All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.
Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.

All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.

Assists the instructional staff in observing and controlling the behavior of students. Assists in maintaining health and safety of students by being constantly vigilant of environment and the potential hazards of student actions.
Assists in maintaining order among students in the classroom and school grounds. Education and Experience
Requires an Associate's degree in a sign language interpreter training program, deaf studies or a related area. Requires one year of experience providing sign-to-English (expressive skills) and English-to-sign (receptive skills) interpreting in one or more sign systems/languages. Additional related experience in an academic or similar environment may be substituted for some higher education based on two years of experience for one year of college. Successful completion of the district's competency exam demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing and mathematics (or readiness in those subject areas).
*A Bachelor's degree in deaf studies or related area is highly desirable. Incumbents hired into this classification, and who have completed (and provided proof) of this level of education will be assigned as a Certified Educational Sign Language Interpreter at salary range 116.
