Responsibilities:

* -- Serve as a liaison between DHH students using sign language and other DHH students, peers, parents, and all school personnel to promote positive rapport among the DHH department, various community and school clientele.
* -- Assist in development and delivery of deaf awareness orientation in schools related to sign language.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The primary responsibility of the Educational Sign Languge Interpreter is to facilitate communication between students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing; use sign language to convey teacher instruction and intent; assist students with daily activities; provide voice to sign, sign to voice, oral transliterate support; participate as a team member to plan, review, and share information; and serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with hard of hearing and deaf person/s.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The primary responsibility of the Educational Sign Languge Interpreter is to facilitate communication between students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing; use sign language to convey teacher instruction and intent; assist students with daily activities; provide voice to sign, sign to voice, oral transliterate support; participate as a team member to plan, review, and share information; and serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with hard of hearing and deaf person/s.

REQUIRED:
* AA Degree or two years of college preparation or training in Educational Interpretation
* Nationally or State certified in interpreting for the deaf/hard of hearing student
* Previous successful experience interpreting for deaf students

* Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
* Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
PREFERRED:

General

Embeds appropriate level of language facilitation, communication facilitation, or interpretation based on whether this individual is performing tutoring or group work with hearing peers.
Reports to teachers any significant behavioral or academic observations of any student with whom they work, and informing general education teachers of specific student needs related to hearing loss (physical environment; lighting; seating arrangements).
Participates with the IEP team to review and address areas needed for improvement in facilitating the communication process of deaf and hard of hearing students.
Provides and Implements approved modifications and/or accommodations of curriculum.
Collaborates and communicates with other special and regular educators and administrators
Provides suggestions, feedback and support to building staff, administrators, parents and outside agencies regarding effective strategies for facilitating learning.
Assists the school professional by helping with data collection, updating records and documentation while helping maintain student files and class records. Maintain compliance with confidentiality laws including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA.)
Attends and participates in district and building in-service opportunities and committee work.

Interpret: the process of changing spoken English into the preferred manual mode of communication for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student, or vice versa.
Transliterate: the process of changing spoken English into a manual communication mode that maintains the grammar and syntax of the English language, or vice versa.
Translate: the process of interpreting the spoken English preferred manual mode of communication into spoken English, or vice versa.
2. Tutor Deaf/Hard of Hearing students (under the supervision of coordinating Teacher of the Deaf), both in and out of the classroom individually or in small groups by reinforcing concepts taught in the mainstream classes; assisting with missed assignments; modeling language; reinforcing vocabulary, study skills and life skills; assisting in learning variations of sign systems; developing of language concepts; changing CASE/PSE into written English; and teaching students the role of the interpreter, students' rights and responsibilities in how to use an interpreter.
3. As a member of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student's education team, communicate with the team (e.g., mainstream teachers, teachers of the Deaf and support staff) to give and receive appropriate information/progress/problems that may impact a student's performance or learning, including, but not limited to, mode of communication, tutoring strategies, educational goals of student, curriculum content, classroom goals and student educational rights and services. May assist with personal hearing equipment (e.g. helping a student put hearing aids in) and/or assist with district hearing equipment (e.g. DM systems). May be asked to support instructors on monitoring behavior during class and extra-curricular activities; follow through with behavior programs established for individual students; use various equipment, augmentative communication systems or adaptations, any OT/PT requirements set forth in student I.E.P. (individual educational plan) and any medical conditions that require staff monitoring. Analyze and review instructional material to prepare for content and message delivery. Ensure appropriate logistics (e.g., lighting, seating, etc.). May be asked to assist Deaf Education Department staff by preparing instructional materials and various clerical duties as Interpreter time allows (e.g., scheduling interpreters for extra-curricular and after school activities, copying materials, and documenting information for DH/H Department, etc.).
4. Interpret and/or transliterate confidential in-school individual and group counseling/mental health sessions, disciplinary interactions, disciplinary hearings, and physical/occupational/speech therapy sessions between Deaf/Hard of Hearing student and staff. Interpret and/or transliterate for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, or Deaf/Hard of Hearing staff at parent/teacher conferences, staff department meetings, district level meetings, in-services, and other required training. Interpret and/or transliterate for Deaf/hard of hearing parents of students in the District at parent/teacher conferences, back-to-school nights, after school performances, individual meetings and staff meetings. May provide Deaf awareness education to hearing staff and students through staff in-services, student groups and one-on-one communication. Promote positive public relations between the Deaf education program, the school and the community.
5. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Degree from an Interpreter Preparation Program (IPP) (Associates or Bachelors as required by IPP).
• Proficient in use of Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE)/Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and/or American Sign Language (ASL).
• No experience required; one (1) year of experience preferred in educational interpreting.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, or CERTIFICATIONS:

Who You Are
As a part-time interpreter for ASL, you are responsible for interpreting and transliterating for deaf and hard of hearing students, faculty, staff, and visitors in academic settings and college events. You will be responsible for interpreting lecture materials, classroom interactions, and any other meeting that a Deaf student has at Front Range Community College.

Tutor Deaf/Hard of Hearing students (under the supervision of coordinating Teacher of the Deaf), both in and out of the classroom individually or in small groups by reinforcing concepts taught in the mainstream classes; assisting with missed assignments; modeling language; reinforcing vocabulary, study skills and life skills; assisting in learning variations of sign systems; developing of language concepts; changing CASE/PSE into written English; and teaching students the role of the interpreter, students' rights and responsibilities in how to use an interpreter.

As a member of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student's education team, communicate with the team (e.g., mainstream teachers, teachers of the Deaf and support staff) to give and receive appropriate information/progress/problems that may impact a student's performance or learning, including, but not limited to, mode of communication, tutoring strategies, educational goals of student, curriculum content, classroom goals and student educational rights and services. May assist with personal hearing equipment (e.g. helping a student put hearing aids in) and/or assist with district hearing equipment (e.g. DM systems). May be asked to support instructors on monitoring behavior during class and extra-curricular activities; follow through with behavior programs established for individual students; use various equipment, augmentative communication systems or adaptations, any OT/PT requirements set forth in student I.E.P. (individual educational plan) and any medical conditions that require staff monitoring. Analyze and review instructional material to prepare for content and message delivery. Ensure appropriate logistics (e.g., lighting, seating, etc.). May be asked to assist Deaf Education Department staff by preparing instructional materials and various clerical duties as Interpreter time allows (e.g., scheduling interpreters for extra-curricular and after school activities, copying materials, and documenting information for DH/H Department, etc.).
4. Interpret and/or transliterate confidential in-school individual and group counseling/mental health sessions, disciplinary interactions, disciplinary hearings, and physical/occupational/speech therapy sessions between Deaf/Hard of Hearing student and staff. Interpret and/or transliterate for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, or Deaf/Hard of Hearing staff at parent/teacher conferences, staff department meetings, district level meetings, in-services, and other required training. Interpret and/or transliterate for Deaf/hard of hearing parents of students in the District at parent/teacher conferences, back-to-school nights, after school performances, individual meetings and staff meetings. May provide Deaf awareness education to hearing staff and students through staff in-services, student groups and one-on-one communication. EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

”, we are seeking professional and diverse, culturally competent, and credentialed medical InPerson Interpreters to join our skillful team to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and their patients, regardless of language or cultural barrier. InPerson Interpreter Responsibilities
Provide effective onsite interpreting service for consumers.
Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for shifts.
Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
Pass screening before taking in-person commitments.
Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context (i.e., hospitals, courts, schools, etc.).
Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to medical procedures.
Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
Spoken Language Minimum Qualifications
Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (i.e., Swahili-to-English or vice-a-versa).
Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
HIPAA Training for Business Associates certificate (completed within the last year)
Proof of language proficiency via a medically based language assessment (LangStat, Reach Diversity, Language Testing Int'l)
Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (i.e.: ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
Preferred Qualifications
Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI or NBCMI.
2 years of medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting.
