Contract Responsibilities:
Provides consecutive, first-person interpretation.
Follows interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Propio L.S. clients.
Follows all Propio L.S. policies and procedures related to information confidentiality and interpreter ethics.
Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized subject matter knowledge, as required for various clients, such as medical, legal, social services, etc.
Requirements:
Submission of updated Resume in English at time of Application.
Completion of English Language Proficiency with a language rating of “technical proficiency” (3 or higher on the nationally recognized ILR scale).
Successful completion of a Mock oral interpretation session. Interpreters are evaluated against 24 quality standards and must attain a passing score.
Completion of Propio's online Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology Assessment, with a passing score.
A full Background Check and Security Screen.
A signed commitment to confidentiality, adherence to ethics, and HIPAA compliance.

Intervention/Direct Services
Attends academic and vocational classes with students who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, interpreting classroom instruction and facilitating communication in the classroom to enable these students to be active members of the class.
Facilitates communication and interaction of students who are Deaf/Hard-of-hearing, teachers of students who are Deaf/Hard-of-hearing, general education teachers and hearing students.
Provides voice-to-sign interpretation through comprehension of spoken language, simultaneously converting the spoken message into an appropriate mode of signing at the student's level of comprehension. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to listen closely - more acute and enduring than normal daily life; ability to simultaneously listen and sign for up to 90 minutes at a time, seven hours per day. Exceptional skill and speed in repetitive use of fingers, hands and limbs; ability to manually interpret conversation at 120-160 words per minute for up to 90 minutes at a time.

Punctuality and attendance are expected; timeliness is necessary as it directly reflects on the agency as well as the interpreter. If an issue arises it is the interpreter's responsibility to inform the scheduling staff as soon as possible.

As a representative of Hands Up Communications interpreters should exhibit professional behavior including attire, timeliness, attitude, manner, and overall behavior.
