    Job ID FT9983-2070-1839 Classification FT Temporary The ASL Interpreter will facilitate communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing patients and providers, ensuring access in clinical and educational settings. This position requires proficiency in ASL and a Michigan Medical/Mental Health endorsement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Facilitate clear and accurate communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing patients and/or practitioners during consultations, exams, procedures, and treatments in a clinical setting as well as interpreting in didactic educational settings. * Ensure accurate interpretation of dental terminology, instructions, patient and provider communication, and didactic content in both English and ASL. * Maintain accurate records of interpreting sessions, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other relevant healthcare regulations. Requirements Minimum Qualifications * Education -A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or 18 months to four years of work experience in a related field. * Experience -Up to six months (Equivalent combination of education and employment). Preferred Qualifications * Understanding of the Deaf community, ability to effectively interact with Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals in a sensitive and respectful manner. * Ability to work effectively with a diverse team, including dental professionals, residents, faculty, and patients. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of dental and medical terminology, including common procedures, treatment plans, and patient care protocols. * Understanding of the Deaf community and the ability to effectively interact with Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals in a sensitive and respectful manner. * Ability to work effectively with a diverse team, including dental professionals, residents, faculty, and patients. * Knowledge of and adherence to ethical standards in healthcare and patient privacy, ensuring confidentiality at all time. Physical Requirements Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office. Licenses/Certifications Certified ASL Interpreter (minimum Michigan Standard Level 2) and Michigan Medical/Mental Health endorsement. Salary/Pay Information Commensurate with experience Anticipated Schedule Monday to Friday 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM Additional Information Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse team, including dental professionals, residents, faculty, and patients preferred.
