Student Support Services/Other Student Support Services Date Available: As soon as possible Additional Information: Show/Hide Part-Time ASL Interpreter (2 Hours per Day) The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter provides direct, individualized communication support for a middle school student who is deaf or hard of hearing. The interpreter facilitates effective communication between the student, teachers, peers, and staff using American Sign Language and spoken English, ensuring full access to classroom instruction and school activities. This position is part-time, approximately 2 hours per day during the school year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide accurate, impartial, and age-appropriate interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and related school communications between English and ASL. * Support the student's educational access by interpreting for core academic classes, small-group activities, or other school events as outlined in the student's IEP. * Collaborate regularly with the classroom teacher, special education staff, and other support providers to align interpreting services with instructional goals. * Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality, following the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and Connecticut regulations. * Prepare in advance by reviewing lesson materials, vocabulary, and relevant content when possible. * Communicate with the special education case manager or administrator regarding any concerns about the student's access, communication needs, or classroom environment. * Participate in IEP meetings or student support meetings as needed. * Maintain annual state registration with the Connecticut Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) in accordance with C.G.S. §46a-33a.
