Position Overview
Global Impact Group is seeking professional and certified Onsite American SignLanguage (ASL) Interpreters to provide in-person interpretation services across the United States. Interpreters will support communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing persons in a variety of settings including healthcare, government, education, legal, and corporate environments. Assignments will vary in duration, frequency, and location, and interpreters may be scheduled for local or travel-based assignments depending on availability and project needs.
Core Responsibilities
Deliver accurate and culturally appropriate ASL interpretation in real-time for in-person settings.
Interpret complex dialogues and specialized vocabulary in settings such as medical appointments, courtrooms, public hearings, and conferences.
Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
Arrive at each assignment on time, prepared, and professionally dressed.
Provide pre- and post-assignment reports when required, and follow client-specific protocols.
Serve as a communication bridge while remaining neutral and unobtrusive in all interpreting scenarios.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
National certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID): NIC, CI, CT, or BEI certification (as applicable).
At least 2 years of verifiable experience providing onsite ASL interpretation.
Ability to travel or relocate temporarily for assignments, when needed.
Must pass background check(s), drug screening, and security clearances where required (e.g., for federal or educational institutions).
Familiarity with ADA, HIPAA, FERPA, and other applicable privacy and access regulations.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Experience
Experience working in healthcare, court/legal, federal government, and K-12 or higher education environments.
State-level interpreter licenses where applicable (e.g., Texas, Michigan, California).
Multilingual or specialized training (e.g., medical, legal certification).
Comfortable with last-minute assignments and travel coordination.
Work Conditions

Description of Work
Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for two (2) Licensed SignLanguageInterpreters, one (1) on 1st Shift and one (1) on 2nd Shift, to work in the Deaf Services Department; specifically, on a co-ed deaf unit. The primary focus of this position is to provide interpreting services for patients who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders and to hospital staff that support these patients within a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate works well with others, works great under pressure, and is extremely flexible with scheduling.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Interpreting in a variety of situations such as educational, medical, legal, financial, employment, and community meetings
Teaching beginning American SignLanguage (ASL) classes
Rendering manually, orally or in writing a deaf person's message

Broughton Hospital is one of the three regional psychiatric hospitals with statutory responsibility for operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF). With the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, we provide help and support to North Carolinians, and their families, experiencing mental illness. Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness.

The SignLanguageInterpretor will be responsible for develping in-person and online training session tools and materials with the Curriculum Developer in order to ensure Deaf or hard-of-hearing participants have complete understanding of the education and empowerment implementation methods to assist participants in making financial decisions that align with their goals and lifestyles. Additionally, the SignLanguageInterpreter will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with participants and staff, as well as assist with providing for the deaf and hard of hearing participant's communication needs.
Qualifications
The SignLanguageInterpreter shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Power point) and related tools and technology required for the position. Educational Interpreters must annually complete 20 hours of training related to interpreting approved by the local education agency. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state of North Carolina. Must maintain a safe driving record.
Grade 6410I- Educational Interpreter I must have a minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of a 3.3 for educational interpreters or a TECUnit score of a level 2 for cued language transliterators. To maintain employment, the educational interpreter/transliterator must meet the requirements for Educational Interpreter II within three years of employment. Educational Interpreter I is an entry level classification. Starting Salary: $19.06 per hour.
Grade 6610I- Educational Interpreter II must have an EIPA score of a 3.5 for educational interpreters or a TECUnit score of a level 3 for cued language transliterators and a minimum of three years of experience in the educational setting. An EIPA score of 3.5 is the new minimum standard requirement. Starting Salary: $20.51 per hour.
Grade 6810I- Educational Interpreter III must have an EIPA score of a 4.0, a cued language transliterator must have a TECUnit score of a level 3, or either may hold a national certification. Five years of experience in the educational setting is also required. Starting Salary: $22.19 per hour.
