    Educational Interpreter II Department: Special Programs Reports To: Director of Special Programs FLSA Status: Exempt Responsible interpreting for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in the full range of complex communication situations occurring in a pre-kindergarten through adult education. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides interpreting services between students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing, staff and other students. Conducts themselves in a professional, non-obtrusive manner while in this role. Stays informed of students communication profiles, and impact of hearing loss as related to comprehension of English and interprets/transliterates accordingly. Determines the best distance, lighting and angle for student viewing, consulting with student and teacher as necessary. Provides for one's own professional growth through ongoing reading, workshops, internet information, seminars, conferences, course work and participation in staff development activities. Uses preparation time to become familiar with subject matter and specialized sign vocabulary. Communicates to Coordinator of Evaluation and Student Services absences for themselves or student, and follows school policy regarding communication with appropriate school staff. Remains current on and follows both the RID Code of Professional Conduct and the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Professional Conduct Guidelines.
