Position Summary
We are seeking qualified and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide in-person interpretation services for clients in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Interpreters will support communication between Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals and hearing persons in a variety of settings, including but not limited to medical facilities, government agencies, educational institutions, and legal environments.
Key Responsibilities
Provide accurate and culturally appropriate ASL interpretation services in real-time.
Interpret in one-on-one, group, or public settings, maintaining confidentiality and neutrality.
Facilitate communication in diverse scenarios such as medical appointments, legal proceedings, training sessions, public events, and internal meetings.
Ensure message fidelity, tone, and intent are preserved during interpretation.
Adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Maintain scheduling flexibility to accommodate clients needs on a short- or long-term basis.
Submit timely and accurate service logs and reports, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Certification from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or BEI (Board for Evaluation of Interpreters), or equivalent state credentials.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience providing ASL interpretation in a variety of settings.
Proficiency in both American Sign Language and spoken/written English.
Knowledge of confidentiality standards, HIPAA (for healthcare settings), and ADA compliance.
Ability to work independently and maintain professionalism under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with federal or local government agencies.
Additional certifications such as NIC, CI/CT, or SC:L.
Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
Ability to interpret in specialized areas such as legal, medical, or educational environments.

Your Main Objective
As the Linguist, you will be tasked with a full range of activities in processing materials or participating in situations requiring general professional capabilities. Task-specific responsibilities are outlined below…
Translation:
Can accurately translate reports/texts in electronic and hard-copy formats that contain facts and some abstract language showing an ability to capture intended implications and many nuances.
Can generally capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in a text. Word choice and expression generally adhere to target language (TL) norms and means of expression specific to the subject field(s) and are strong enough to allow the translator to operate successively in that field.
Interpretation:
Able to interpret accurately. Typically, consecutive interpretation is needed, but simultaneous interpretation may be requested on rare occasions.
Has a good understanding of one or more regional dialects.
Transcription:
Review audio or internet material and transcribe with a high degree of accuracy and expression.
Must possess excellent English-language written communication skills for preparing reports.

What Sets You Apart:
TS/SCI with polygraph is required.
BA/BS and/or equivalent formal military training and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
Attending and passing all sponsor-related training is a requirement of employment.
Successfully complete sponsor-required training, travel, and medical requirements if applicable.
All candidates must take and pass a language test administered by Stardust GCS/an accepted commercial testing vendor.
You Might Also Have:
Experience deployed as a linguist advocating contingency operations.
Knowledge of the U.S. Intelligence Community, military, cryptologic, and law enforcement experience.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in Target and English.
Linguists who are proficient in multiple languages are strongly desired.
