Qualifications and Skills

be familiar with the terminology and provisions of the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
possess skills in a broad range of general interpreting assignments.

Description and Functions Open Until Filled This recruitment is intended to fill multiple positions at various locations, including Moorcroft, Lander, Shoshoni, and Cheyenne or Laramie. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Wyoming State Parks is seeking seasonal interpretive rangers for the summer of 2026. Interpretive rangers are our front-line staff who engage and enlighten visitors about a site's natural and cultural resources. The employment season is from May 15th to September 15th, working 40 hours per week. The rate of pay is $15.00 to $16.00 per hour. Some seasonal positions may begin earlier in the year and extend longer into the fall. Please refer to the Essential Functions for more detailed information about job duties.
Some sites have optional no-cost housing that will be provided in a recreational vehicle or dormitory. These positions are stationed at one site but work on programs throughout the district. The proposed housing locations, though subject to change within each district, are:
Absaroka District in Northeast WY: Stationed at Keyhole State Park near Moorcroft. Housing consists of a dormitory containing six single-occupancy rooms, organized into two wings, with one shared bathroom in each wing. Rooms are fully-furnished, and the wings are joined together by a shared/fully-equipped kitchen and communal area. Alternative housing in a JayCo trailer may be available upon request for certain accommodations.
Big Horn District in Northwest WY: Stationed at Boysen State Park in Shoshoni. Housing consists of a 2021 Jayco camper trailer with full hookups. Necessary amenities (cookware, bedding, towels, etc.) are provided. A washer and dryer are available at Park HQ. Pets are allowed with the prior approval of the site superintendent.
Laramie District in Southeast WY: Stationed in Cheyenne or Laramie. No housing is provided. The hourly rate for this position will be on the higher end of the listed pay range to accommodate the lack of provided housing.
Shoshone District in Southwest WY: Stationed at Sinks Canyon State Park in Lander. Housing consists of a Four Winds camper trailer stationed at Park HQ. Internet and hookups are provided, with a washer/dryer available at HQ.

We are seeking a committed American SignLanguage (ASL) Interpreter/Interpreter Coordinator to join our team and play a pivotal role in strengthening accessibility across Wyoming. * Provide high-quality ASL interpretation/transliteration services during meetings, hearings, presentations, and events as needed.
* Identify, recruit, and support contract interpreters.
* Coordinate interpreter schedules and assignments.
* Serve as a resource and advocate for accessibility issues within the organization.
* Provide mentorship and coaching to freelance contract interpreters, offering constructive feedback and guidance on interpreting skills and professional development.
* Conduct outreach activities, workshops, and training sessions on finding and using ASL interpreters, communication basics, Deaf culture, ASL interpretation techniques, ethics, and best practices.
* Analyze data on interpreter service demand, utilization, gaps in services, barriers, and industry trends.
* Generate reports and recommendations based on data analysis to optimize interpreter services.
* In collaboration with stakeholders, develop and implement policies and procedures related to ASL interpretation services, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Experience providing interpretive services virtually using a variety of videoconferencing equipment, software, applications, and platforms
Bachelor's Degree (typically in interpretation, American SignLanguage/English, Deaf Studies, rehabilitation, government or public administration, education, social work, or related field)
Four years of paid experience as an interpreter for the Deaf
Valid and Current certification(s) recognized by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
KNOWLEDGE:
* Fluency in American SignLanguage (ASL), including strong signing and voicing skills.
* Highly proficient in spoken and written English
* Thorough understanding of deaf culture.
* Comprehensive understanding of the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
* Knowledge and skills to interpret in various settings, which may include but are not limited to rehabilitation, mental health, business meetings, legislative meetings, conferences/training, community events, medical appointments, and legal proceedings.
* Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of professionalism, impartiality, and confidentiality.
* Proven experience as a mentor or trainer in the field of ASL interpretation.
* Demonstrated ability in policy development, implementation, advocacy, and collaboration.
* Knowledge of federal and state laws that affect the provision of signlanguageinterpreting services.
* Skill in analyzing communication modes as used by signlanguage users.

SUMMARY: The job of SignLanguageInterpreter is done for the purpose/s of facilitating communication between persons who are deaf and/or hard of hearing and others; conveying teacher instruction; assisting students with daily activities; providing voice to sign and sign to voice support; participating as a team member to plan, review and share information; and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with students who are hard of hearing and/or deaf.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students, school staff, peers and others by facilitating communication, spoken and signed, through signlanguage.
Job Tasks Descriptions
Facilitate all communication between deaf and hard of hearing students, staff, peers and others by using appropriate signlanguage. Use signlanguage appropriate for learning level of students and adapt signlanguage level and/or mode to meet the communication needs of students. Ensure appropriate logistics for background noise levels, environmental lighting, student seating and use of adaptive devices. Scribe for students that are receiving the service as stated on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Tutor academic classes and lessons as needed under the supervision of a Licensed Teacher.
Record daily documentation of all student-related activity. Maintain required records and files.
Prepare instructional visual/tactile aids and prepare for future lessons.
Consult with team to ensure student is meeting current IEP goals.
Advocate for students by communicating students' social, emotional, and academic progress and needs with appropriate staff and by assisting staff and peers in understanding hearing loss/deaf culture, signlanguage rates and use of interpreters/tutors.
May assist multi-needs students with toileting and/or medical needs.
Attend appropriate in-services, building meetings, training, IEP meetings, parent conferences and/or school functions.
Foster student independence and peer relations by introducing signlanguage to hearing peers.
Provide students who are deaf or hard of hearing with equal access to academic and nonacademic activities, individually or in groups (e.g. regular classroom, library, computer lab, cafeteria, recess, sports, assemblies, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the students educational ands social needs within a school setting.
