They also work as part of the global Network Communications team, involved in the design and implementation, commissioning and decommissioning of new and existing infrastructure. Main Duties and Responsibilities The Voice and Unified Communications Engineer is responsible for maintaining, administering and troubleshooting the Firm's existing Voice platforms, including voicemail, devices and associated lines, electronic fax solutions and call reporting solutions. In addition, this role is required to support any transitions to Unified Communications platforms, including designing, auditing, testing, configuring and deploying solutions on a global basis. The responsibilities will include ongoing maintenance and issue resolution while ensuring the designated platform has sufficient capacity, performs as required and is readily available throughout the platform's existence, including, but not limited to: Maintain and troubleshoot existing Cisco voice systems; analyze telecommunications requirements and plans, program and test telecommunication systems. Work with external vendors to identify faults and log circuit outages. Investigate hardware and software problems with voice/network devices and work with the manufacturers' support teams to resolve - ensuring the stability of the service. Monitor the health of the voice and UC infrastructure using an array of network monitoring and analysis tools. Assess the platform for any security vulnerabilities and manage the remediation, including any major upgrades where appropriate. Ensure proactive capacity planning, and that appropriate contingency/recovery plans are in place and maintained accordingly. Prepare and maintain technical platform related documentation. Assist in capturing data required for the design and implementation of new UC systems. Perform preventative maintenance (on-site and remotely) of all voice-related systems, including cable plant, firmware upgrades and platform level updates, monitor performance and carry out equipment repairs. Configure, verify and monitor system backups. Program the existing Cisco platform and maintain routing tables in the most efficient manner. Maintain and recommend security systems to protect against unauthorized access and analyze data to detect unauthorized usage and fraud. Technical Skills VoIP & Telephony systems UC Platforms (Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Zoom) Cloud Technologies (AWS, Azure, cloud UC solutions) Voice protocols - SIP, T1/E1 Grounding in network security principals WAN, LAN, infrastructure (TCP/IP, VPN's, QoS, VoIP, WAN, LAN, SD-WAN) Cisco network implementation and troubleshooting Routing and Switching protocols: BGP, OSPF, VLAN Requirements Minimum of 5 years' in-depth experience in voice and network administration, preferably within a law firm and/or professional services environment Good level of proficiency in network protocols, design. Demonstrated knowledge of supporting IP and UC systems. Excellent knowledge of SIP, implementing Session Border Controllers and PSTN SIP trunking Cisco IPT accreditation (CCNA/CCNP Collaboration). Demonstrated knowledge of supporting a WAN and LAN network infrastructure.
