Power PlantOperator Job Responsibilities:
As a Power PlantOperator, you will adhere to departmental/governmental safety standards in addition to departmental/organizational personal appearance policies. To help achieve our mission, you will chemically analyze boiler, chiller, cooling tower and all closed loop systems.
Your ability to operate and assist in maintaining/repairing all Power Plant equipment with minor supervision is of vital importance.
Monitoring other engineering systems and taking emergency actions when necessary
Responding to plant emergencies and demonstrating knowledge of locations of firefighting equipment, while performing safety checks on plant equipment, is expected.
Understands the importance of chemical balance in all systems.
Cleans and paints equipment, piping and associated accessories in Power Plant and mechanical rooms.
Performs chemical analysis tests and adds the correct amount of chemicals to keep a prescribed balance in boilers, cooling towers and closed loop systems.
Minimum Requirements:

The purpose of this position is to support the patient care environment by operating and maintaining the central heating and air-conditioning equipment for the Medical Center.

Job Description:
* Maintain flow of steam, heating system hot water, domestic system hot and cold water, and chilled water to the Medical Center by operating and maintaining the boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, centrifugal chillers, and related equipment in the Power Plant.
* Keep all systems free of scale, corrosion, and sludge by monitoring chemical levels and adjusting treatment according to our chemical program.
* Respond to emergencies related to the equipment in a safe and effective manner based on a thorough understanding of the equipment and familiarity with the standard operating procedures manual for the Power Plant.
* Document all routine and extraordinary events by recording all pertinent information on designed log sheets or other paperwork systems set up for that purpose.
* Monitor the various building systems for safe and reliable operation by responding to alarm and perform other operations related to the Building Automation System.
* Maintains a variety of other equipment under the responsibility of the Plant Engineering Department, especially during second and third shifts. This will include building equipment and PM.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
* High School Diploma, post-secondary training in a maintenance related field.
* Must have a valid driver's license and meet SEHC insurance requirements.
Specialized Knowledge:
* Familiarity with steam and condensate.
* General familiarity with computers systems, pumps, chemical treatment, centrifugal chillers, and cooling towers, and computer operation and software applications.

**Overview**
Since 1937, **Alton Memorial Hospital** has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. **Preferred Qualifications**
**Role Purpose**
Provides the necessary skill for operation and maintenance of the physical plant systems in a manner to ensure safe operation, optimum performance, and maximum efficiency and all other duties as required. Provides the most difficult repairs and overhauls on any of the mechanical equipment in any facility in the system.
**Responsibilities**
+ Keeps equipment clean and operational. Handles and disposes of hazardous and or infectious waste properly and practices infection control. Adheres to regulatory guidelines.
+ Operates, repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains all physical plant equipment in compliance with all department procedures and policies, and all applicable compliance, safety, federal, state and local regulations.
+ Completes all assigned critical and routine equipment preventative maintenance by utilizing approved procedures, department policies, and manufacturer's specifications.
+ Notifies appropriate leadership in the event of equipment malfunction, boiler casualty, or any other unforeseen event that negatively impact the operation of the boiler plant or the hospital steam system.
+ Monitors elevators and determines if a repairman needs to be dispatched.

Job Summary
Summary:
Under the general direction of the leader on duty, and according to established policies and procedures operates the computerized building automation and alarm system operations center and interprets and responds to information provided by the system. Takes corrective action as needed and responds to emergency situations and has the ability to work independently.
May be required to work weekends or rotating shifts.

Essential Functions:
-Operates computerized Building Operations Center, which includes the Honeywell Siemens Controls and ENE Building Systems computers, Translogic system and Thyssen Elevator computer system.
-Interprets and responds to information provided by the system(s) determining normal and corrective action.
-Receives phone calls from all areas of the hospital and takes appropriate action.
-Dispatch calls to personnel as warranted.
-Assigns other Engineering Department personnel as required for corrective actions.
-Maintains and issues computerized corrective work orders.
-Maintains handwritten and computerized log(s) of all transmissions, assignments and/or communications in accordance with department standards.
-Performs equipment inspections on the M-1 level to ensure they meet standards.
-Communicates with other employees and management on necessary information regarding building systems operation.
-Maintains a cooperative relationship with utility suppliers and outside vendors to the hospital (i.e.
-MASCO, MATEP, Boston Edison, Boston Fire Department, Honeywell, American Service, Thyssen Elevator, etc.) to respond to malfunctions of equipment.
-May contact vendors as necessary.
-Performs duties of a maintenance mechanic on a periodic basis to maintain a familiarity with changing systems and building layouts.
-Responds to emergency situations as appropriate.
-Attends and actively participates in department, team, and one on one meetings with supervisor.
-Provides updates in shift huddles with team members to ensure continuity of services across shifts.
-Maintains a safe and clean work environment in areas where work is performed and in Engineering department.
-Closes work order in Maximo to maintain an accurate record of services provided.
-Completes work in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
-Supports team members to problem solve and complete work orders to meet customer needs.
-Upholds BWH values and customer service standards in all interactions within and outside of the Engineering Department.
