Summary of Job Responsibilities: Assess, monitor, treat, and care for neonatal patients requiring respiratory interventions. * Provides advanced airway management, may include intubation. * Assume primary responsibility (select, assemble, monitor and manage) for respiratory care modalities including invasive and non-invasive ventilation, bubble cpap, and high frequency oscillator and jet ventilation. * Medication administration via nebulizer and intratracheally (surfactant administration) and medical gases (Nitric Oxide) * Initiate and conduct therapeutic treatments/procedures such as aerosol therapy, airway clearance, and secretion mobilization. * Attends and is an active team member for high-risk deliveries and neonatal rapid response codes, * Blood gas acquisition and analysis * Communicates with the care team by making recommendations based on patient's lung compliance, response to therapy, and laboratory/xray results; recommendations include initiation, escalation, de-escalation, and discontinuation * Documents work efficiently and accurately in the patient medical record and department records and assures all patient billing is complete. * Provide clinical precepting of new team members or students, as needed. * Communicate with patient's families, providing education regarding respiratory care being provided and/or in preparation for discharge. * Participate in quality improvement projects Requirements: Registered Respiratory Therapist. Licensed in the state of Illinois. CPR. NRP certification. Level 3 NICU experience required. NPS preferred or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire.
