Success in this role requires strong active listening, emotional control, professionalism, empathy, and adaptability. Interpreters manage continuous live calls, often under pressure, while strictly following interpretation protocols to maintain neutrality, accuracy, and confidentiality. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Accommodation Delivery Interprets for students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are d/Deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing using American Sign Language, Signed English, and/or Tactile/Pro Tactile. Interprets for non-signing hearing students, faculty, and visitors using spoken English. Engages in pre- and post-conferencing with peers, supervisor, and consumers. Prepares for classroom interpretation by reviewing textbooks, assignments, videos, and other related material via Blackboard. Educates campus members regarding interpreter roles and accommodations for deaf and hard of hearing students. Maintains confidentiality of student records and other confidential information. Provides functional guidance to practicum students as they prepare to graduate from the College's interpreting education program. Stays abreast of trends impacting the profession and consumer population through professional development activities. Facilitates interdepartmental outreach and collaboration.
