PURPOSE:
The
Front-End Clerk I
position allows you the opportunity to provide superior customer service by way of responding to customer inquiries, providing support throughout their shopping experience including promoting our customer loyalty plan, processing sales and returns using a cash register, and addressing customer complaints when they arise. DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
The essential duties of the
Front-End Clerk I
consist of, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
Arrive at work on time and leave per scheduled time unless otherwise directed.
Work overtime as assigned.
Dress and groom according to Company policy, including uniform, name badge and hat or apron requirements.
Perform all duties in accordance with Company rules, policies, safety requirements, and security standards, and all Local, State and Federal health and civil code regulations.
Provide the best customer service possible.
Do not chew gum or play on mobile communication devices (MCDs) while in the check lanes.
Greet all Customers that are within 10 feet of you, and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
Be attentive to the customer. This includes looking the person in the eyes and listening to their needs, so as to accommodate them.
Be consistent with the three (3) deep rule; and when you have two or more in line, call for backup assistance.
When you are checking the Customer. Ask the Customer, "Is that everything for you today Mrs. Jones?" This is to seek further needs of the customer.
Making it understood with all the employees that come in contact with customers, that THE CUSTOMER IS THE FIRST PRIORITY; that the store is in the forefront of that activity; and that every member of the team id here to fully support that priority with prompt and friendly service.
Stand at register station for duration of scheduled shift, which may exceed 8 hours per day.
Understand operation of cash register and follow all cash handling procedures.
Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all of the various types of produce carried in the store including differences between varieties of similar cases of products.
Regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise that weights 25 lbs. and that occasionally weights up to 50 lbs.
Check prices, and be knowledgeable about location of items in store.
Accurately identify and scan product under correct department (when necessary).
Efficiently process each customer grocery order. Error free and resulting in a happy and satisfied customer.
Promote for sale any current charitable promotions to Customers.
Process all forms of payments (i.e., cash, credit, checks, EBT, WIC, Rain checks, coupons, vouchers, gift cards, etc) in accordance with Company guidelines.
Accurately and quickly collect proper payment and provide proper change.
When handling change make sure it's properly counted back to the customer and placed in the customer's hand.
Handle damaged or return-to-stock products according to Company policy, with priority attention given to refrigerated, perishable items, and sell by date.
Process refunds as applicable.
Properly bag customer's orders safely and efficiently.
When necessary, properly bag and separate customer's goods (dry, frozen, cool).
Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines as relates to Front-End operations.
Maintain the UPC log for any mis-scanned or mis-priced items.
Remains alert at all times for suspicious customers.
Comply with safety policies and procedures.
Utilize and maintain equipment as required by department; report any equipment problems immediately.
Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment.
Perform cleaning duties in accordance with the Company policy and adhere to manufacturer's label instructions for the safe and proper use of all chemical products.
Keep floor(s) clear of debris and spills.
Keep check stand area clean at all times and free of clutter, this includes, but not limited to coffee cups, go backs, receipts, hand baskets, carts, grocery items, or any other items that do not belong there.
When requested, maintain the cleanliness and stocking of the hospitality table.
Attend meetings when scheduled, with other team members to keep informed on those matters which affect the successful performance of the job, the status of the store, and the company as a whole.
Assist in the mentoring of new cashiers as directed by the Front-End Shift Supervisor. This will include training in the proper performance of their jobs, in company rules, regulations and policies, and in job safety.
Keep your behavior in a professional manner.
Complete work in a prompt, ethical and prudent manner.
Complete all applicable department training programs.
Work cooperatively with others.
Stay productive during idle times, and stock the check lanes when required.
Refrain from visiting with friends/family while working.
Perform any other duty or task as may be assigned from time to time by the Front-End Manager or Front-End Shift Supervisor.
PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way.
Must have the people skills to assist customers and associates in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables under stressful circumstances, dealing with customer complaints, and in circumstances where only limited standards or policies exist.
This position might require early morning, last night, and working holidays and weekends.
Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
This position requires an individual capable of sitting, standing for extensive period of time, walking, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying loads up to 25 pounds including the use of hands and fingers to feel, use cash registers, and other related machines.
Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and be able to communicate effectively with department employees, the store's coworkers and customers; Company handbooks, policies and procedures, and; Other written job-related documents including safety notices and other postings on company bulletin boards.
Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and ability to adjust focus including having sufficient visual acuity to check and verify pricing and UPC codes.
Ability to perform basic math.
Must possess the math skills necessary to handle sales transactions, tender change, verify vendor invoice charges, and be able to balance cash receipts or troubleshoot errors or discrepancies in cash or column balance.
Must have a good understanding and use of the cash register.
Ability to work with fresh, dried and/or processed products, spices and powdered substances without negative allergic consequences.
Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
Ability to work in varying temperatures, as needed.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Must be able to react to price and accuracy scanning errors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment will be completed in a climate-controlled retail store environment; on occasion work environment may include occasional exposure to outdoor areas during rain, cold, sunny, warm or freezing conditions in order to accomplish tasks as hand.

When instructed, to train department employees in the use of all equipment, tools, and utensils to ensure their safety.
Perform the receipt of merchandise into the department, verifying merchandise with packing slips, confirming prices, recording the entry of goods, processing documentation for back-ordered or short-shipped items.
Follow approved procedures for transfer of products, price marking and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, public image, accuracy, and product rotation.
Be aware of competitor pricing and advertising tactics to protect the company from market share erosion. Communicate recommendations to the department manager.
Handle damaged or distressed merchandise according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
Keep all merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest product first (first in, first out).
Assist in the planning of the store's merchandising plan for the following month with the Store Management.
Make sure refrigerated cases and display shelves are properly stocked and always faced according to product movement and department standards to ensure maximum sales, quality, and freshness.
Immediately communicate temperature failure of cases/storage areas or of any maintenance or equipment problems to the department manager.
Takes affirmative action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses; observes security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer actions and behavior reported to manager any abnormal behavior.
Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of all equipment to ensure safe, clean, and sanitary operating conditions.
Use all equipment, tools and utensils in a safe manner and comply with safety policies and procedures.
Assist other store staff in the performance of their duties so that they will be familiar with and able to handle all jobs and positions.
During any slow periods, to stay productive, performing other duties as assigned.
To exhibit an attitude and approach to "get the job done no matter what it takes."
Under the direction of the Store Management, mark down nearly dated products daily to promote sales of unsold goods and maintain the store' image for the highest quality products.
To control excessive use of utilities and observe sound conservation practices.
Notified department manager of policy violations that is having an adverse effect on department operations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor(s) or Store Management.

When instructed, to train department employees in the use of all equipment, tools, and utensils to ensure their safety.
Perform the receipt of merchandise into the department, verifying merchandise with packing slips, confirming prices, recording the entry of goods, processing documentation for back-ordered or short-shipped items.
Follow approved procedures for transfer of products, price marking and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, public image, accuracy, and product rotation.
Be aware of competitor pricing and advertising tactics to protect the company from market share erosion. Communicate recommendations to the department manager.
Handle damaged or distressed merchandise according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.

Meat Clerk
position allows you the opportunity to exhibit your excellent meat preparation skills while interacting with our valued shoppers. Additionally, this position will require the performance of tasks such as, greeting customers, answering queries about products for sale, including ordering, receiving, stocking and displaying varieties of meats and cheeses. To be successful in this position you must be someone who cares about our highest quality meat products by displaying, wrapping, rotating, preparing the fresh and frozen meat products, poultry and seafood prepared and cut by our Meat Department. DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
The essential duties of the
Meat Clerk
consist of, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:
THE CUSTOMER IS THE FIRST PRIORITY; the entire store is in the forefront of that activity; and every member of the store's team is here to fully support that priority with prompt and friendly service.
Strive to always provide the best customer service whenever possible.
Follow the assigned weekly work schedule to ensure adequate coverage in the meat area, by maintaining punctual and regular attendance.
Arrive at work on time and leave per scheduled time unless otherwise directed.
Work overtime as assigned.
Dress and groom according to company policy, including uniform, name badge, meat coat and hat or apron requirements.
Always maintain a neat well-groomed appearance.
Must wear an approved hat or hair net.
Perform all duties in accordance with company rules, policies, safety requirements, and security standards, and all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
Do not chew gum or play on mobile communication devices (MCDs) such as cell phones or tablets during the workday.
Greet all customers that are within 10 feet of you, and provide them with prompt, courteous service, and assistance.
Be attentive to the customer. This includes looking the person in the eyes and listening to their needs, to accommodate them.
Maintain the sanitation and safety of the meat area.
Adhere to policy and regulations to be fully compliant with all applicable laws pertaining to food safety, health, and packaging requirements of prepared foods.
Assure the highest possible levels of sanitation and safety is maintain within the entire meat cutting and preparation area.
Set-up and complete prep work of the entire meat department.
Make regularly scheduled inspections of packaged products for freshness and visual appeal; pull products for re-wrapping as required.
Take stock of storage and shelf areas.
Make sure refrigerated cases and display shelves are properly stocked and always faced according to product movement and department standards to ensure maximum sales, quality and freshness.
Keep all meat ingredients or merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest product first (first in, first out).
Ensure that all ready-to-cook meats are prepared within the proper recipe guidelines and in an appealing and appetizing manner.
Wrap, weigh, and price all meats and related products processed in the department.
Safeguard the food inventory to reduce spoilage and pilferage.
Is familiar with invoice documents and confirm accuracy of item descriptions, size, quantities, and pricing during vendor product deliveries.
When directed, inspect incoming merchandise for packaging, cleanliness, correct product identification, freshness and condition, rejecting any item from the delivery that does not meet the standards and requirements of the store (this may include transfers from other store locations).
Accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies.
Follow approved procedures for receiving and code dating products to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation.
Be aware of competitor pricing and advertising and let the manager know if this would affect the department sales.
Ensure meat cutting preparation is done with a minimal amount of waste.
Order wrapping supplies for the department when directed (trays, shrink wrap film, labels, etc.)
Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of all equipment to ensure safe, clean, and sanitary operating conditions.
Be familiar with and use industry formulas to perform cutting tests and yields.
When assigned, routinely check refrigeration equipment for proper performance.
Make sure meat cuts are properly wrapped, prices and attractively presented, and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation.
Assist other meat staff in the performance of their duties so that they will be familiar with and able to handle all jobs and positions within the meat area.
During any slow periods, to stay productive, performing other duties as assigned.
To exhibit an attitude and approach to "get the job done no matter what it takes."
Under the direction of the Meat Manager, mark down nearly dated products daily to promote sales of unsold goods and maintain the store' image for the highest quality for freshly baked products.
To control excessive use of utilities and water and observe sound conservation practices.
To use all equipment, tools and utensils in a safe manner and comply with safety policies and procedures.
Assist in the maintenance and safe and reliable condition of all equipment in the department.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Meat Manager and/or Store Management.
PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess good communication and writing skills.
Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
Must have basic math and accounting skills to do food costing and percentages.
Ability to read, write, and understand English language effectively in order to read and understand written or verbal directions.
Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and be able to communicate effectively with department employees, the store's coworkers and customers; Company handbooks, policies and procedures, and; Other written job-related documents including safety notices and other postings on company bulletin boards.

This position requires an individual capable of sitting, standing for extensive period of time, walking, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying loads up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment includes continuous duties in refrigerated cutting rooms and storage areas with occasional duties in frozen storage boxes maintained at temperatures as low as 20 degrees below zero. The work can be physically demanding and may include exposure to repetitive motions, dangerous equipment, and cold temperatures including working on surfaces that are wet and slippery.
